1. Hollaback Girl, by Gwen Stefani
"This s__t is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S. This s__t is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!"

Actually, most anything of Stefani's solo career is pretty annoying.

4. All her songs sound like they were written by eight year olds.
In the playground.

In the same vein, there's that godawful song by who I thought was Stefani, but turns out to be someone named Fergie.

How come every time you come around
My London London Bridge wanna go down
Like London London London

Yeah, those eight year olds again, working overtime.

7. Furby is responsible for that sonic torture device "My Humps"
by the Hack Eyed Fleas.

I swear, the modern pop scene is the reigning repository for the most wretchedly-vapid stupidity in attempts at music-making in the history of music. It seems the level of success is inversely proportional to genuine musical talent.

Personally, I think accusing 8-year-olds of writing that dreck is an insult to 8-year-olds.... ;)

Kinda strange 'cause I like most of the Motown stuff I've heard... Plus, I always feel a little guilty b/c I know "Dancing in the Streets" is associated w/ the civil rights movement and all, but yeah... if it comes on, I'm changing the station.

10. My three most hated songs always gets me in trouble when I tell people.
Which is fun!

Freebird
Stairway To Heaven
Dream On

I'm sure there's worse out there but those are in a genre I've never liked to start with. These songs on the other hand were staples growing up with everyone around me. I think they're overwrought crap though.

...that's Guitar 101 for my generation.

I can see how they'd get on yer nerves, though, considering the ubiquitousness* of all three of those songs. They were, and still are, way overplayed.

*It's a word. I checked.

I like one or two songs, but that's about it. Freebird was used nicely in The Devil's Rejects, but I still hate it.

I like other songs by Aerosmith and Led Zep too, but these three will result in an instant shut off from me.

23. There is no worse song than "Seaons in the Sun"
Songs on parity:

Billy, Don't be a Hero
Afternoon Delight
Muskrat Love
Feelings

ANYTHING by the Carpenters. How could anyone enjoy listening to Karen sing--aside from bleaching out the soul in every song she touched (King Midas on Clorox!) she was notorious for warbling between the tones, never quite hitting them. It always sounded like the hole in the record was off-centre.

Gawd, for all it's great contributions, the seventies really sucked sometimes!

42. I've never seen American Idol.
But I was in a situation where I was forced to listen to a radio station I didn't care for for few weeks. After repeated listenings of this one song, I kinda started to like it. I asked someone who it was and they said, "Oh, that's Kelly Clarkson, you know, American Idol..."

AHH!!

The song I found out was 'Since You've Been Gone'. She does have a decent voice.

49. Give it a shot. I hated the whole idea at first, but now I have a theory about it.
I've only watched it a few times. I resisted mightily for years, but my daughter, who's a pretty good singer (If she asks, tell her I said STUPENDOUS!!!!) watched a couple of episodes.

My first thought was that it was a train wreck show, that people would watch just to see Simon embarrass people. But after a few episodes, I began to believe it is actually teaching Americans how to recognize good singing.

The early shows start off with the open tryouts, and you hear a whole range, from truly talented to godawful deluded. Watching the full range, all at once, people can clearly hear the difference. Over the course of a season, the field is winnowed from a group of reasonably talented down to a handful of genuine talent. Simon is brutally honest in his comments--not as mean as some claim--and usually very accurate. And other artists talk about the contestants. The audience gets to hear analysis of each performer and what they did right and wrong.

I think overall people who watch the show are slowly being trained, by being shown wildly different talent levels, and slowly narrowing what they hear until the last six or seven contestants are close, and the nuances between them can be heard. I don't say they always choose the best as the winner, just that the final six or so are generally better than the first six to go.

I still don't watch it. :) But I don't shudder when I see clips from it.

And if you like Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone" (I don't, actually, but it's ok), listen to "Because of you." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLi0yBmPe0k

Just my random observations. I had to take a break from work, and then from GD:P! :)

Though pretty much anything by Fall Out Boy could be substituted.

If you search YouTube, there are dozens of parody videos for this crap "rock" band with... "alternative" lyrics that all too often sound more like the bawling of that incoherent, incomprehensible lead singer than the actual lyrics do.

Fish in a barrel, I know. :P

Never could. It's not even the content (though that's fairly lame as well) but I find it musically to be very blah and uninteresting in any way. I suppose if it weren't the national anthem I could overlook it easily enough, but the realization dawned on me at the first of many baseball games I'll be attending this season just how very much I dislike that song.

And for that matter, Kate Smith and that treacly "God Bless America" can cram it as well. :grr:
