"Whore"
It comes from hore in Old English, hora in Norwegian, but the Latin references charity— at the root it's carus—dear, as in Hello, whore. Hello, dear. As in loved one, sweetheart, precious, as in rare—therefore expensive, dear, cher, cheri, a luxury when given freely, pitting charity against law.

to turn a dictionary explanation of a word into poetry. Wow. :applause:
I wonder if that etymology is even partially correct. That would certainly turn the modern meaning and connotations entirely on it's proverbial ear. :)

7. Strangely, this poetic technique (exploring definitions) is one of my weakest. |

I just can't do it in any kind of meaningful way. And I actually have something of a passion for linguistics. It's frustrating that it's never produced any good writing for me. So, that's kinda why I like this piece.
