Have you ever voted for a Communist or a Socialist? |
|
My friend voted for the Socialist Workers Party's candidate for governor in 2002. Mainly because he didn't care about the election and just showed up because I talked him into voting against Norm Coleman.
And now he wishes Arnold was our governor...*sigh*...well I suppose I could probably tolerate Arnold more than Pawlenty...

In fact, I am a former member of the SWP. (Back before they broke away from Trotskyism.)

that is Lorca alright. I'm 19 years young also.
Great composer and playwright. Too bad Franco had to be such an ass.

19. "Ditty of First Desire" by Federico Garcia Lorca |
|
In the green morning I wanted to be a heart. A heart.
And in the ripe evening I wanted to be a nightingale. A nightingale.
(Soul, turn orange-colored. Soul, turn the color of love.)
In the vivid morning I wanted to be myself. A heart.
And at the evening's end I wanted to be my voice. A nightingale.
Soul, turn orange-colored. Soul, turn the color of love.

Voted Socialist Worker for something back in the early 70's. A friend of ours who was working at the polls told us the little old ladies she worked with were all a-twitter over it. Apparently, no such thing had ever happened in their district.
But them I'm also a product of the New York school of split-ticket voting, whose fundamental principle is: Don't let the Democrats take your vote for granted. (My father still boasts of having voted for Norman Thomas in 1948.)

Always for Gus Hall and Angela Davis (ah, the good old days)
I can't remember the name, but there is a Communist from Pine Bluff, Arkansas who usually runs for president.
Voting Communist also gives you the opportunity to see your vote in the paper. Look up the results from your precinct and look for the Communist party column. There you are. Things are gonna start happening, now!

10. Gus Hall was my great uncle. |

I'm serious. He was one of my mother's countless uncles. He was Finnish, and Gus Hall was his American pseuodonym. I forgot his real last name.

18. In my time I've voted for twelve Labour candidates... |
|
.. the jury's still out on whether any of them were socialists.
I have never voted for any Marxist, although I would have been tempted to vote for either Harpo or Groucho if they'd stood. Less sure about Chico, Zeppo or Gummo.
