I OFFICIALLY became old today...
Today, at the ripe old age of 31, I took my First ever pill for High Blood Pressure.

next week, I see the cardiologist.

I'm sorry about your BP. I'm shocked that mine isn't higher. I have bizarrely low BP, always have. It's genetic.

12. My doc tells me this is common. I have very low bp (usually about 95/50, maybe up to 100/60)
but she told me not to assume it'll always be that way. Lots of people with low blood pressure suddenly go the other way. At least, that what she says.

it was 140/100...

way too high, even though it is lower than it has been in a few months.

16. You do seem young for bp that high. Is it genetic, do ya think?
My church does bp clinics after worship once in a while. Last time, my bp was 110/75. Our parish nurse said it must've been all the pressure of Sunday morning that drove it up that high.

I'd freak out if the low number were in triple digits. I hope they find a good way to treat it for you!

There is also a history of males on my fathers side having heart attacks in their 50s.

46. Your doctor is correct. I used to have low bp. The two times I had to have minor surgery,
I was held in recovery for hours because my blood pressure was so low. However, that all changed in the last year or so. I'm now 'borderline'. I'll be 60 years old in 2 months.

10. And I'll be 33 in September
:P

What the fuck happened to me? Aside from calling and alerting cops to crimes I witness (some/many I participated in as a wild youth), I'm totally going against the way I was raised: "You didn't see nuthin'"

I think at least my dad (and most likely, my mom-dukes) still doesn't ever get involved out of fear of retaliation. Heh, the job he's had for x number of years now, he's been in the crossfire of some shootouts (he's a union laborer for NSTAR) and his usual reaction is to slink down in his seat while rolling up the window, and yelping, "I didn't see anything!"
His partner doesn't flinch, and teases him right after with, "What? You scared or something?"

I'm taking Lisinopril 10mg, and the doc think I'll get off it - to tell the truth, I stopped taking it months ago, and my BP is fine (110/88 on last checkup last week)

I also take Lipitor - also stopped as well.

Cut my carb intake in half, and drank plenty of water. I hope that helps.

I walk about 4 blocks every day to work, so it helps a little.

I am still obese, though, even though I dropped 20 pounds in about 3 months.

11. Better to start prevention now than later.
I had a heart problem that had apparently been developing for years with no symptoms. I had a triple bypass back in January, and I'm only 49. I don't know what prompted you to see the doctor in the first place, but you did the right thing.

43. Often as not they can't trace it to anything.
I was diagnosed a year ago when I turned the new forty ("Hello. You're old now. Here's your pills.") and since then went through every test they could think of. Nothing.
There are a couple of very serious things that can lead to hypertension and it's important to eliminate those but don't be surprised if they never find the problem.
