They just raised out payments to $103 bi-weekly. That's about 30 dollars or so a month more than I was paying. So now I am paying $223.00 a month for health care w/ $1,000 deductible. Home office claims they are paying 52% and we are paying 48% which means that my coverage is about $465 a month according to them. I think that's bullshit and they aren't paying shit.

I did some quick checking and can get my own plan for a lot cheaper than the supposedly 48% I am paying. Some people on the family plan got hit with a $200 hike a month, that sucks. I am a single 44 year old male. Doesn't $465/month seem a bit high?

1. My dear johnnie...
That does seem a bit high, though I am far from expert on these matters...

Maybe they're trying to get you to get your own insurance...

I wouldn't put it past them...

Bastards...

:hi:

3. I wouldn't doubt if they are trying to do that
I'm going to probably drop there's anyway, but it sucks to think that companies would do this to people, but that's the way it is these days I guess.

2. Thats very high
I was paying LESS than that on COBRA recently...$365 per month. Something does seem fishy to me. If I may ask, who is your carrier?

5. Unicare
Here's the thing, home office is in Houston and so is this Unicare company. They don't offer service here in Ohio but you can get it through a network. I think that the owner of the company is getting pretty good rates down in Texas and making us pay a shit-load of money so we can use it up here.

Even though this was a couple of years ago I had Unicare...I paid nothing close to that...Yeah. Your rates being higher than some COBRA plans...that seems very suspicious.

4. We are going to be on COBRA soon
My husband's company paid his insurance in full and we paid mine through their group plan. His insurance will now cost us about $450 per month. So, no, it's not high.

6. $450 each?
That doesn't seem like a very good rate.

I think it's pretty normal for good coverage.

12. I looked at two different plans here
Neither of them went over $270.00 a month. Maybe it is regional.

13. Maybe. We're in Georgia.

However, we've looked at other plans as well that are cheaper, and they don't cover as much as this one.

7. The COBRA continuation for my husband's insurance is costing
me $2000/month... and that's the best I can do. Any individual plans I've checked out have a ceiling for prescriptions so the cost plus prescriptions would be more per month. It's a screwy world we live in.

10. I never use it
Well, I used it for the first time in 12 years last year, but other than that I don't go to the doctor. Of course I'm sure that the day after I would drop it I would fall down the stairs and brake my gourd though.

Is that $2,000 a month just for you?

We have two. But anything more than me is $2000. It bites and I have a pre-existing condition so finding coverage has been crap. Well, finding coverage that would end up being cheaper than this is anyway.

18. That sucks
The one guy at work is diabetic and his just went up $200 at our place. He is freaking out because he said his pre-existing condition makes it hard to find anything affordable. He said to me today "That's the only thing I agree with the Democrats on, socialized medicine". :eyes:

19. I can tell you the breakdown & cost according to my DH's plan
They're up for renewal and had been given information one day, then different info the following day. Because of the confusion, they ended up giving out the actual breakdown of what each plan costs, what the company pays and what the employee pays.

There are two different plans for singles, HMO or a POS(Why is my first thought not Point of service?)

For a single person, with an 80/20(max. co-insurance is $1,000 with no deductible) POS plan, the renewal amount is $389. The employee pays $40 weekly towards that, the company pays $50.

For a single person, HMO, 70/30 plan, $1500 co-insurance maximum, $250 annual deductible, renewal amount is $333. The company pays the same amount as the POS plan above, leaving about $27 a week for the employee to pay.
