Jeez (a multi-purpose thread)
What a fucked up few weeks. To wit:
After spending the last year getting healthy and getting on a combination of drugs to keep me that way, I find out from my insurance carrier that one of the drugs is no longer in the formulary. And better yet, neither is the (recently released) generic equivalent.

So now I get to switch meds. That means going through withdrawal from one, and then get used to the new one (with its own jolly set of side effects). Seeing as I usually end up getting sick as a dog when I switch meds, this should be interesting, to say the least.

Now here's the kicker: my employer switched pharma coverage after my union negotiated a 2% pay raise AND and 28% increase in our medical out-of-pocket this year. Glad my dues are doing something worthwhile :eyes:

On top of that, I've got a huge high-visibility project at work that's supposed to go live on Monday. This is a make-or-break thing for my work unit, and has been under development for over a year. It's also the first big project I've worked on since I came back from medical leave, so it's a big deal to me.

Then, to add to the mix, I get a call from my aunt (dad's sister). It seems my dad is hitting the bottle again like a red-headed step child. He was hospitalized last year with the DTs after another bender, is diabetic, and has had a drinking problem for several years. He also has a younger brother who died of alcoholism, and he probably has untreated bipolar disorder (which runs in my family, although he has never formally been diagnosed).

And now, to top it off, IT IS FUCKING SNOWING OUT. In April.

3. Agree with the insurance thing
And supposedly, I have pretty good insurance, too. I found out that the old med will cost me $6/day if I want to pay out-of-pocket. I can probably afford that, but what's the point of paying for the drug in addition to paying for insurance?

I hope you can get your health stuff sorted, too. It sucks not being well. I've been on over a dozen different meds in the past 16 months, so I can totally relate.

10. I spend a lot of time in both Mpls and Rochester, actually!
I live in St Paul. My mother lives in Rochester, and I lived their briefly many years ago. I still see a doctor in Roch on a monthly basis, and have spent some quality time at the Mayo Clinic/St Mary's hospital, too.

PM me about the 21st (or maybe I should just go check the MN group on DU?). I may be able to make that. :)

5. thanks lost
I'm crawling out of my cave momentarily, only to get blizzarded back in it seems.

I'm just hoping the new drug works as well as the old drug. And doesn't get me addicted (unfortunately, it has that tendency).

8. Wow.
:(
I am very sorry that you have so much stress all at once.

First of all, I hope you adjust to the new meds without any issues or problems.

Then I hope the project goes live without a hitch. Knock 'em dead.

And please don't let your father's problems derail you. If you can help him, please do, but don't let him impact your own life or health.

Be well.

I've never been diagnosed as an alcoholic, but I will admit to being a problem drinker in the past. Nowadays, I don't even touch the stuff, because of the meds I'm on and also because of the bipolar disorder.

It's really sad because my uncle (his brother) literally drank himself to death, and many other members of his family are addicts. But I can only do what I can do. As long as he's not a danger to himself or others, I can't do anything.
