Poor Katie Couric - she's not happy with the 'hard-edge' that CBS wants to take the news

Couric -- Resigned To Resignation?
Amid increasing speculation about whether CBS plans to remove Katie Couric as anchor of the CBS Evening News, today's (Friday) Los Angeles Times is reporting that Couric herself is expressing discontent over the harder-edged form the newscast has taken. "The reality is, it's not the newscast she came to do, and she's disappointed," a network source close to Couric told the newspaper. "But she's one of those people who says, 'This isn't what I signed up for, but for right now, I'm in it 190 percent.'" The Times and other newspapers today, including the New York Times, reported that Couric met with CBS CEO Les Moonves and CBS News President Sean McManus to discuss the possibility of leaving

I guess CBS is going to try doing the news with out the PERKY factor to help boost rating. And poor Katie can't be perky anymore. I mean, nothing like cheering up stories of War, Recession and this shitty government by giving it a Perky edge

1. I guess she's just upset that she can't pass off irrelevant fluff as "news" anymore.
Sorry, Katie, times have changed, and that shit isn't gonna fly anymore.

2. The network news on all channels is approx 10 mins of 'hard news'
10 mins of infotainment and 10 mins of commercials. Honestly, thre's no wonder Americans are so uninformed of what's going on in the world - maybe that's just how our corporate overlords want us.
So having said that, Katie can kiss my big fat white ass if she thinks the news is too hard-edged. She should watch the BBC sometime. :grr:

3. "perky"? Does this mean the next news anchor will be well endowed, and for "hard-edged"
pertain to their male audience?

:eyes:

Yup, that'll get attention.

7. My dear tigereye!
I'm with you!

This is the only news we watch...

The rest is just so much drivel, IMHO...

5. About time CBS took a "hard-edge" to the news again.
Say what you will, but I still miss Dan Rather. Anyone have any idea who might replace here?

8. Actually, Cronkite is still alive and relatively active.
He could probably still do the news at 90, or however old he is now.

10. I think Carole SImpson
I forget which station she was on on the weekend, was an excellent, serious anchor.

11. Well, Katie... let's see... which one's not like the other:

What did she think she was going to do at CBS? Hard-hitting interviews with Paris Hilton?

12. Here's the thing that gets me....
The press in this country has the freedom and the obligation to question our leaders and their policies.

Can you imagine if Senator McCarthy's witch hunts were taking place today... do you think Katie Couric would call him out on national television the way Murrow did? Today's MSM would kiss McCarthy's ass.

14. I've boycotted Couric since she did that "Everybody Says" interview with Edwards and his wife
Couric sure didn't quit HER job when her own husband got seriously ill and died of cancer. She was totally without compassion and just sounded like a twit in that "Everybody Says" interview. When Katie went to CBS she turned a GREAT news show into some sort of health infomational, bent on her mission. Cut into the middle of news stories in Iraq, switch to health stuff, THEN return to Iraq coverage because she had a 'captive' audience.

That time of night, 6pm my time, I want some REAL news coverage. Bring back Bob Schieffer!!!! I feel like I can trust his perception of world news and he knows what he's talking about. If I want "perky" I will watch some daytime women's shows.

Don't get me wrong, I happen to be a female too. Just don't want silly games during the nightly news when one expects to catch up after a long day at work.

16. I think that invterview.....
was the beginning of the end of anyone taking Couric seriously. She was rewarded for it with outrage from just about everyone.

One thing the Terri Schiavo fiasco should have made clear is that most people, regardless of political affiliation, do not want their private medical decisions second-guessed by the government or the media.

18. Thank you for your comment. I had never made that connection re: Mrs. Schiavo
But maybe that's, subconsciously, WHY that interview made me so angry. Not merely because I was/am an Edwards' supporter. I followed that whole sorry sad saga of Mrs. Schiavo, may she FINALLY rest in peace! I think you are correct.

They need get Katie back to doing her perky stuff and get her off the news networks!

15. "Harder-edged."
:eyes: Yeah, right. Less perky and more macho does not make it any more "hard-edged." It's corporate McNews, and dumping Couric is just another pose, another rebranding attempt.
