12 hrs in NYC
Suggestions for first time visitors to the city - good, moderately priced food, short tours, places of interest. We will be close to Times Square.

Thanks!

1. Good, moderately priced food, you say? Near Times Square?

:P

Anyplace but there!!! Food gets less expensive as you head over toward Ninth Ave.

Museum of Modern Art and Paley Center (fka Museum of TV and Radio) are both in the mid-50s, a few blocks north and east.

edit: muesum??

Don't be hatin'...The Yanks just took a 1-0 lead over the Sox about 5 minutes ago. Not that that mitigates my dislike of the the guy. ;)

EDIT: JD Drew just hit a homer for Boston...1-1

6. You HAVE to take the subway down to Battery Park and see the bay and the
statue of liberty from the lowest point in NYC. It's free, quick, and quite memorable. Also, most people love to take the ferry over and back just for the great views of NYC from the water. Don't get off the ferry on the other side: Just stay on and go right back. It's wonderful.

After dark, get in a cab and ask him to drive you over the Manhattan bridge and right back in again. It's the coolest close up view of the skyscrapers in town. Almost like a helicopter ride.

Another great view is from the Brooklyn bridge. Walk over as far as you and and turn back. It's a long walk if you go all the way over.

Then there's the view from the top of the Marriott Marquise. It's a bar called the view. Even if you have a drink, it's way cheaper than a big sit down dinner with a view.

7. What do you like?
What are you interested in?
Whatever you want to see, we have.
Art? We have some of the best art museums in the world.
History? We also have great history museums, of all kinds. Natural History Museum; New York Historical Society
Gardens? NY Botanical Garden; Brooklyn Botanic Garden; Central Park
Zoos? The Bronx Zoo
Modern sociology? We have great ethnic neighborhoods, Chinatown, Little Italy; some Indian (Asia, not American) neighborhoods.
Ethnic food? NY is the place to be.
Books? NY Public Library on 42 and Fifth -- the old reading room looks partly in the 19th Century and partly 21st Century.
Architecture? We have great buildings of various vintage and styles.
Music? What genre do you like? Opera? Rap?

So let us have an idea of what you're interested in and we could make some recommendations.
