4. Good guy, from a bit of personal experience
Jimmy Walker was a semi-regular in Las Vegas sportsbooks for years. Particularly at the Stardust, until it closed about a year and a half ago. He'd make bets and hang around, talking to the locals, while the games were underway.

He loves to bet offbeat stuff like the Grand Salami, which is the term for a wager on total number of hockey goals to be scored in a given night. I carry around a sports ticker and JJ asked me several times to give him the score of a specific hockey game.

He was even responsible for a rules change on the Stardust handicapping show, a popular once a week matchup of two handicappers during football season. The winner advances, loser departs. JJ loved to pick obscure games like Canadian football, something very few people follow. That frustrated the Stardust brass to such extent they changed the rules and mandated only the major college and pro slate could be used by the handicappers.

I know he's expressed Libertarian views, but that's not uncommon for someone who has spent years in Nevada. It's almost a chic point of view among males in Nevada.

I heard he expressed anti-Bush sentiment during a gig on a major cruise line recently, and then quit when customers complained, and he was relegated to the lesser lounge and not the main room.

JJ also spent years in the UNLV basketball band during the Tarkanian heyday and shortly thereafter, high allegiance to the team and wanting to be involved in some capacity. He'd be sitting there next to the college-aged kids.

5. Waste of space on a terrible show. On a good one he might not be.
