Kayaking with the kids in protected waters, picture heavy.
Day three we took the kids for a tour through Whalers Cove, Point Lobos Monterey. First we toured the cove with Troy, order determined by coin toss.

He weighs about a buck fifty so we are close to the upper range of the boat's capacity.

Then it was Blaise's turn, she is very light so we ranged further out, despite the previous days debacle.

Then after a unwittingly unauthorized hotdog BBQ lunch I took both kids with snorkel gear for an exploration of the cove. We landed in a little beach so the kids could try to wade and look at sea life but the coves bottom was rocky and barren. We piled back in the kayak and they took turns dipping their masks in the very cold waters as I paddled over rocky outcrops.

We were the last ones there that day.

1. My dear puerco-bellies!
Ah, these are great pics!

I think you are to be congratulated on teaching the kids while they're young about this sort of thing...

They'll learn how to kayak, and more importantly, they'll learn to respect that environment...

Thanks for sharing!

:hi:

3. Both kids love animals so we don't need to teach them respect for their world
We will bring our second kayak on our next trip north in August.

4. I went there when I was 8 or 9 and never forgot it.
I married in to this family and it is a great feeling passing on what I've learned, and a little more. My parents never imagined kayaking back then.

5. Oh what fun!
I rarely get to go kayaking. The waters look so calm, the scenery so peaceful. Anytime on the water is a good time.

Glad that you're teaching your kids the joy/peace/harmony of nature.

I've only kayaked once and that was on a lake doing some photography, but I loved it. It looks like you guys did too.

10. Looks like a lot of fun - Pt. Lobos is one of my all-time favorite places!
The harbor seals in Coal Chute Cove (across from the parking lot) tend to be really playful.

(Hope you didn't land on the beach in Whaler's Cove - that also is an unwittingly unauthorized activity :tsk: :tsk: ;))

11. We paddled around Coal Chute Cove
The smaller exposed rock had Seals, and Canadian Geese hanging out on it. Once we got over head sunlight we could see fish as well. We did land but it was the cove between Coal Chute and the rocks marking the beginning of Monastery Beach Cove. The bottom was bare gravel so we pushed on.
