Anybody know sumthin' about washing machines? |
|
so, all the cycles work, except for the spin cycle. It agitates fine. When it gets to the spin cycle it runs slow, there is a sound, almost a metal scraping along metal and it smells like hot metal.
Any thoughts?

1. If it smells like hot metal... |
|
Don't use it again until you can get it fixed. You might burn it out.

4. I'll preface this by saying I know next-to-nothing about washing machines |
|
But it sounds like you may have lost a bearing or something and you'll kill the motor if you keep running it.
The agitation cycles just move the spindle, but the spin cycle moves the whole tub.

11. Washing machines have a gearbox... |
|
that moves the agitator when the motor spins one way and the drum for the spin cycle when the motor direction is reversed. I would guess you have a gear or pulley that is bad for the spin cycle. If it smells like metal probably a gear or bearing/bushing. Either way it is not easily fixed and you should have someone look at it to see if it is feasible to repair.
