We almost all get it one time or another, and .........

Eleanor Roosevelt said:

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

I try to remember this when it hits.......

1. That has dogged me since the day I realized what a mistake was
It's manifested itself through me not taking very good care of myself. Not only is there self defeating thinking, there is self defeating behavior. Eliminating that behavior goes a long way toward eliminating that kind of thinking. Since I've quit smoking and drinking not only do I physically feel better, the whole self defeating conception that I had of myself is starting to crumble. What is left is happiness.

2.  I was taking some pills that ruined my view, and they made me depressed...

Prescription meds. I finally went off of them, (with a great deal of trouble), and discovered what you found..Droopy...
.......happiness.....
And I am far more able to overcome the negative thinking and not accept that view of me as being valid. Like Eleanor said, we do not have to believe it, not for one minute...

Odd though, a Doctor would give me meds that made me more depressed, and ruined some years of my life...

3. If it was psychiatric medication
you may have been prescribed something that you didn't need. I think it's actually become quite common for that to happen. I take psychiatric meds, but I clearly needed them. We're talking psychosis here.
