Does anybody know how I can sell a $500.00 Leather bag that I don't need ?
I need to sell this bag to make a quick $200 dollars to pay off my student loan to my old college so that they can send my transcripts to the college that I am applying to by June 1. I have had this $500.00 bag since 2005. I paid $172.00 for it at a silent auction for breast cancer back in 2005 for my mom but she never used it so I have always had it in my closet taking up space. I did'nt think back in 2005 that I would ever want to go back to college but I did. I am wondering if anyone knows someone that is interesting in buy this bag from me. I also need tips on how to sell it fast. I really really want to go back to school this fall and I all I need are my transcripts. Good karma my way thank you.

This is a very nice bag oh gosh how I don't want to sell it because I wanted to carry it one day but school is so much more important to me right now.

3. Can you change your ebay listing so that you have a reserve
bid amount? I'm just afraid that the highest bid MIGHT NOT be close to what you should be getting for the bag and you'll be obliged to let it go.

Put at least a $200.00 reserve on it, if it's not met, it's not sold.

good luck!! and congrats on your wanting to return to college.

4. Some other tips
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 11:12 AM by JoDog
1. If you haven't already, sign up for the paypal debit card. This will allow you to get instant access to the money as soon as the buyer sends it to you.

2. Remember shipping insurance.

3. Try a general statement to back up the value you that you are offering. "Sold elsewhere at $xxx.xx", "List price new was $xxx.xx", etc.

4. Update your listing with the measurements of the bag--length, width, depth, and the length of the handles. And maybe some more examples of what can fit in the bag--is it big enough to hold file folders or a magazine without folding it? A hardcover book? A laptop? A change of clothes? This could help a potential buyer better imagine how they could use it.

6. I know the feeling
I have a few things I'm selling for extra cash right now, too. I added a few more ideas to my post, based on my experience as an advertising writer. I hope it helps!

7. some other thoughts....
I'm a designer hand bag addict. *sigh* But, I've bought all of them second or third hand because i can't afford new, retail prices.

From experience, I know there is a lot of hand bag fraud on ebay. With the pictures you have online right now, along with the fact that you are new to ebay, I think people are going to be hesitant.

Ebay has a handbag discussion board, you might be able to get add'l help there. But, my immediate thought is you need better pictures. More close up detail. If there is a serial number, creed, date code, etc. inside the bag, get a clear photograph of it. Also, add that information to the description (ex.: The serial number for the bag is xyz).

Like another poster said, add the measurements. And, maybe even add a photo of the purse next to a soda can or some other standard object so people get a reference point to the size.

Lastly, see if it is possible to get it authenticated some place. And, if you get it authenticated, post that info in the description, too. Sadly, with all the fraud out there, you just saying it is a genuine article isn't enough for most bidders these days.

Good luck! It is a nice looking handbag!

8. I need a digital camera.
Mine broke about 2 years ago. I know about fraud and this bag is 100% real. I could get fired for this but I am desperate at my wits end because I need to go back to school. Sigh. If there is'nt one thing there is another. I will probaby take this down and revise it.

9. Totally understand. Another suggestion....
off topic of the hand bag....

Do you have old gold jewelry you no longer wear, that has no sentimental value? (like high school class ring, etc.)

I just sold my old high school ring (from 25 years ago), my wedding band from my first marriage, a ton of jewelry that I haven't worn for 10-20 years (broken chains, charms, etc.) and made far more than I ever could have imagined. Gold is at a high right now.
