Poll question: "Here's Looking At You, Kid" - What a day at Turner Classic Movies! Your vote, please:
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 12:02 PM by faygokid
Thank you, Ted Turner. Here is an impossible poll: Vote for the best movie on Turner Classic Movies today. I suspect Casablanca (on now) will win, but there isn't a loser in the bunch. This is the schedule, in order, and it began at 6 a.m. Comments welcomed, and expected!

3. Oh man, choosing hurt!
However, I had to choose Singin' in the Rain. Sure, it's a top-notch musical with witty dialogue, fantastic tunes, and Gene Kelly (mmm...Gene... :9), but mainly I had to pick it because I couldn't pick Casablanca out of deference to Mr. MG. He swears the movie is cursed (for him)--whenever he watched it with a girlfriend, they broke up soon after. We have been together 12 years and we have NEVER watched it together because he's afraid of the curse.

5. Ironically . . . (you won't believe this)
I left work this morning because my girlfriend of 12+ years told me yesterday that she wants me to move out.

There was no use going through the motions at work, so I came home, and am having a vodka tonic, which I never do during the day. The curse is strong, apparently.

Your choice is excellent, but they all are with this lineup. Thanks for your reply.

6. Dude.
Man, I am so sorry. That's harsh! Drink that vodka tonic and have another. Too right about that curse. Thinking good thoughts for you.

8. Thank you so much. I'm numb.
Hoping to get numb-er. Two serious relationships in my life: Married 18 years the first time, now 12+ this time. At 56, I don't even know what to say at this point.

It just happened yesterday, so anything I think or say has no relevance. I am just going to sit tight, and go to work tomorrow.

9. Something like that takes time to process, certainly
Be numb. Then be wounded. Be angry. Be bitter. (Oh, I suppose I shouldn't use that particular word these days around here, huh? ;) ) Then, much farther down the line, be forgiving...and be appreciative that you had two primary long-term loving relationships in your life, because that's what's most important.

10. Thanks. The Philadelphia Story is just starting; that may be just the "tonic."
For today, anyway. I'm old enough to know that "one step at a time" is the way to go. Don't worry, my first wife sez I'm the best ex-husband ever (our daughter is now 31).

I still have friends, my teeth, some of my hair and a sense of humor. I'll get through this, but I shall also miss her.

Revel in the classics! (Ooooh Philadelphia Story could really pull me away from my freelance work. Must...resist...)

You sound extremely well adjusted--sounds like you'll come through this just fine! I can see it now: "DM seeking SO. Movie buff a plus. Teeth, some hair, sense of humor intact..."

12. Thank you m'dear. In an alternate universe . . .
But you sound like one who clings to another who cares for her. A lucky man, indeed.

Me, I will get there. Thanks for the line. I just may use it. Might take me some time, but I have always been a hopeless romantic.

15. Way too much greatness today. Grant, Stewart, Flynn, etc. Wow.
An abundance of riches, for sure.

16. I left it on TCM all day too!
I usually turn it off after the news in the morning but I noticed the schedule today on TCM. I mostly played the movies in the background though, I had to do a lot of stuff but I did watch most of Casablanca. For some reason I cried when the all sang the French anthem together, people singing together always gets to me. Anyway I LOVE Ingrid Bergman, she's one of my favorite actors ever.
