I think my Kitteh hates me he still bites me |
|
he will come sit besides me on the couch, but when I pick him up to pet him and hold him, he hisses and bites and jumps down.
All I wanted was a lap kitteh that loved me and wanted petted

1. He wants to sit beside you |
|
I have one like that. She just likes to sit beside me and be petted (including tummy rubs), but she doesn't like to be picked up. Considering she's about 14 pounds, that's okay with me!

4. One of my cats gives me "love bites" |
|
She's a snuggler and when I'm petting her she just REALLY gets into it and suddenly nips my nose or chin. I've gotten to where I know when it's coming and pull away so she misses.

3. Some cats don't like to be picked up. |
|

One of mine, the youngest one, is like that. She's friendly as can be, comes and sits next to me purrs like crazy, but if I try to pick her up and hold her she nips my hand and tries to wiggle away. Pet your cat as he sits next to you; just don't try to restrain him. I think eventually he will relax and not mind being handled. He doesn't hate you if he likes sitting with you.
One of the other cats, who is a little older, doesn't mind having his ears skritched and will come and sleep next to me at night, but when I pet him he often tries to lick my hands, and he just licks and licks, purring all the while. He used to nip a little, too (love bites, I think), but he finally stopped that after I made a habit of yelling "No bite!" and pulling away from him whenever he did it. He is getting much better about not wanting to lick me all the time.

He only wants to be held when HE decides. Which is normally just as I am getting out of the bathtub.
He's never changed in 14 years. But he does like to have his face and head rubbed, when HE decides, and he sleeps on top of me every night. I have to sleep with my hands under the covers or he will start nudging my hand for a facial and head squeeze when I'm trying to sleep.

7. My 10 year old Bombay thinks she's a kitten |
|
I was looking for an aloof cat who would only come around when she wanted something, and would be my rodent repeller. Obviously, I didn't know very much about cats--I've always been a dog person. But I soon found out that Bombays are total lap fungus--they're freakin BARNACLES, stuck to you like to the side of a ship. I highly recommend that if you want a lap cat, get one of them.
She also bites and claws me, out of a playful spirit, and licks me worse than any of my dogs. I had no idea this was common.

11. Can you accomodate another kitty to offset his behaviour? |
|
The aforementioned Bombay has managed to push every cat into the background while she grabs the lion's share (pun intended) of my attention. That allows any loner cat to go about his business without being burdened by human expectation.
Any cat that's part Burmese is a lovey-dove, a purr box who wants your affection, I've since found out! And mine is special because I gave her to my Dad when my Mom died last year and Kitty has been doin' good work, keeping him from being too lonely.
I see her every weekend, but now she's my Dad's lap fungus!

I have one that is "hip fungus". She likes to sit on my hip when I'm laying on my side on the couch, watching TV or reading a book. The other one likes to sit beside me, so I guess she qualifies as moss on my north side (or east or west or south!).
