I *have* to get his book for my Mother! Check it out:
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 06:46 PM by bicentennial_baby
Backstory: The Howes brothers were some of the earliest commercial photographers of the post-Civil War era, operating in Western Massachusetts, based in Ashfield. They were my dear Grandfather's uncles. We still have several of their original photos on metal plates and such.

There is a book of their photographs, and I MUST get it for my Mother who will absolutely cherish it.

"New England reflections, 1882-1907: photographs by the Howes brothers; edited by Alan B.Newman, from the collection of the Ashfield Historical Society"

Here's a link to the UMASS Amherst page describing the Ashfield Historical Society Collection:

WANT! :bounce:

9. That is sooo cool!!
There is an out of print book of poetry that was written by my second or third great uncle that I am always looking for. I read a copy my grandmother had once, but I won't get that copy. I want one of my own.

I hope you get your book and enjoy it! :bounce:

16. So it would seem.
:)

Thank you for bringing this up. You spurred me to Google John M. Morse again and I actually found a New York Times article from 1895 about him.

18. Thank you for getting me to search again,
I had no idea that any of my family ever lived in Jersey. I thought they were all from upstate New York.

14. My g-g-g-g-g-granddaddy was named Charlie Darwin
and he supposedly wrote a book. Can you, you kick-aaasheee gift-giver, possibly get me a first edition?

That does sound like a great gift. Hell, it would be cool even without the family connection. Rock-it!!!

15. Aww, thanks!
I grew up looking at their cool pics on metal plates, in my own hands, and my Grandpappy was a hero. I miss him so much. He died in '96. This will just make her Mother's Day, absolutely. :pals:
