Has anyone used PDFCreator?
I'm looking for a good program for creating PDF's, and a friend tentatively recommended this one, though he doesn't have a lot of experience with it.

Anyone familiar with it?

2. I have the reader but not the writer
Is Adobe's writer free/shareware? Or do I have to pony up some sweet, sweet moolah to use it?

3. You can download it
as a trial...You get like 5 or 6 free I think. Thats what I used when I made my vaccine essay into a pamphlet. Its very user friendly too..I'm not the most computer literate person and I had no trouble with it.

4. I've used it to print documents from Word to PDF
It's been pretty seamless for me - all you do is select PDFcreator as the target printer from the print menu, then name the file at a later step.

7. Very cool--thanks!
My friend indicated that it was pretty easy to use, but you know how friends are--always misleading you with bogus software reviews...

5. What word processor are you using?
Both OpenOffice and WordPerfect let you export to pdf without any problems.

6. An older version of MS Word
I know, I know. () But it's the platform I've been using for ages, and I'm most comfortable with it.

10. If you're used to Word then try OpenOffice
It looks and feels almost identical.

8. I have "deskPDF"
It's a few years old, and I never sprang to get it registered so it still puts a URL at the bottom of all the documents, but I've never had a problem with it at all.

It goes into your computer as a printer, just like a HP or Epson, and it "prints" to your hard drive as a PDF.

Works great. I use it to archive stuff, like receipts from purchases or that famous "President-For-Life Bush" article that got pulled super-quick back in August!

Remember? I do.

<snip>

Caesar pacified Gaul by mass slaughter; he then used his successful army
to crush all political opposition at home and establish himself as permanent
ruler of ancient Rome. This brilliant action not only ended the personal threat
to Caesar, but ended the civil chaos that was threatening anarchy in ancient
Rome – thus marking the start of the ancient Roman Empire that gave peace
and prosperity to the known world.

If President Bush copied Julius Caesar by ordering his army to empty Iraq of
Arabs and repopulate the country with Americans, he would achieve
immediate results: popularity with his military; enrichment of America by
converting an Arabian Iraq into an American Iraq (therefore turning it from a
liability to an asset); and boost American prestiege while terrifying American
enemies.

He could then follow Caesar's example and use his newfound popularity with
the military to wield military power to become the first permanent president of
America, and end the civil chaos caused by the continually squabbling
Congress and the out-of-control Supreme Court.

President Bush can fail in his duty to himself, his country, and his God, by
becoming “ex-president” Bush or he can become “President-for-Life”
Bush: the conqueror of Iraq, who brings sense to the Congress and sanity to
the Supreme Court. Then who would be able to stop Bush from emulating
Augustus Caesar and becoming ruler of the world? For only an America
united under one ruler has the power to save humanity from the threat of a
new Dark Age wrought by terrorists armed with nuclear weapons.

Ah, I love my PDF writer...

9. I use a printer.
Just create documents in whatever, the select Print, and Mac OS gives you to option to save it as a PDF instead.

11. I like pdfFactory.
http://www.fineprint.com/products/pdffactory/index.html

That's what I put on my kids' XP computers. They use it for school projects, email attachments, and for documents they post on the web. The ability to combine pages from multiple applications into one pdf is very useful.

On my Ubuntu and Debian machines pdf export is just there.

But none of these are Adobe, especially when it comes to commercial use and proprietary fonts.
