things that bring you joy
i was watching my guy play the drums tonight and realized how happy it makes me to know how much he enjoys playing. his eyes go kinda far away and he gets this little half smile that just kills me.

today was a beautiful day in n. colorado. it hit the mid-80s and i was just blissful as i sat in the sun and felt the breeze brush across my skin.

i feel beat down from time to time, so it is always amazing when i realize that i can find joy in my every day life.

tell me, loungers, what brings joy to your lives.

1. Percussion of any kind is a love of mine and brings me joy for that kind of music
(listening to some now by a group called "Harem")

Reading and writing with only the sounds of windchimes is so peaceful.

At this time in my life, losing myself in my writing probably brings me the most joy.

11. I'm sure this will sound cheesy
My kids are the light of my life and my daughter brings me joy just being around. She's quite full of herself and when she isn't driving me mad she's quite intertaining. My son is autistic and when he has a good day, gives me hugs and kisses and just laughs because he's happy brings me the most joy.

Oh yeah, and seeing Bruce last night brough me joy. :D

14. Watching my dog eat his dog food. I know it sounds silly, but...
he just enjoys every morsel and it fills my heart to watch it for some reason. It's like smelling the roses to him for some reason.

And the most endearing part about it is that if he catches me watching him, he stops eating and gives me a look like, "What???" "What did I do? And why are you staring at me?" LOL!

I just love my pup. :D

We have trout lilies and dutchman's breeches and bloodroot and mayflower and sweet cecily and virginia waterleaf and clintonia (I'll have to find something I don't know the name of and call it "Obamania" now) and jack in the pulpit and wild ginger and purple and white and yellow violets and columbine and it's my favorite time of the year and there's a red tailed hawk nesting in a tree just below the point of the ravine...I love spring in Minnesota.

She is 5, turning 6 in June. Or as my husband puts it - 5 going on 30. We adopted her from China four and a half years ago and she is the light of my life. But I figure that all too soon it won't be cool for her to tell me she loves me, so I'm treasuring each and every hug, kiss and affirmation.

43. My boyfriend, who is my true soul mate. My horse and my little deaf kitty cat. Trees and rivers.
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 11:33 AM by CottonBear
My boyfriend and I have known each other and been platonic friends since 1981! We were always married or involved with someone else all that time but we were always incredibly attracted to each other. Finally, the timing was right, we were both single and we have been inseparable ever since! (He called me out of the blue and asked me out and, to say the least, he was an unexpected surprise!)
We are very content and happy and in love with each other which is just grand! It was worth waiting 27 years for him!

Quiet time with my mare, Cotton, is so wonderful! I love her so much! I've had her since the night she was born in the back pasture at the farm. I love her horsey smell, I love burying my face in her mane and hugging her neck. She is really, really beautiful and after a long day at work it is so nice to just hang out with her and groom her while she eats her oats and hay. Horses are my favorite animal. (I think I like them better than people.)
:)

My little deaf kitty cat, Tabitha, is my good girl who has been my faithful companion through good times and bad for over 14 years now!

I love trees and a being outdoors especially on or near the water. I really love spending a long summer day on the Broad River in my kayak!

Of course, I love my family (my mom and sister.) They do, however, stress me out from time to time, just like in most all mother-daughter-sister relationships! ;)

60. Lots of things, here are two examples.
I was driving down a residential street, going slowly, and there was a boy around eight walking along the sidewalk in front of me.

As I got closer, this kid, whose back was to me, did a little dance. It looked like a practiced step and he did it very gracefully and it was just adorable.

As I passed I had a huge smile on my face and I looked into my rearview mirror, he was looking at me and smiling just as big. It was a treat.

Then just this last Saturday, I was working in the front yard. We have a huge hedge that blocks sight of the yard, so I am quietly working and I hear this grrrring coming down the hill, like a motor revving, only a human voice.

I look up and this kid, around 12 or so, comes flying down the sidewalk to the slope of our driveway and does a horizontal flip on the upside of the curb. He hadn’t seen me, but when I let out an eek of surprise and amazement, he looked at me, raised his arms like an Olympian, looking very pleased with himself and then turned to head back down the street.

I bet he does that a lot, come racing down that hill and our driveway is wide and the far side slopes a little higher, but that was the first time I’ve seen it.

64. life in general
yeah, there are definitely some sh*tty moments, but overall... I try to wring as much joy out of life as I can. My passions are music and art, and my wife and pets, but I also love reading and learning new things, and building stuff. Add to that nature: trees, animals, rocks...

Everything. Except Republicans. Most Republicans suck the joy right out of me.
