NEWARK, Del.- A man accused of being Delaware's top toll evader has surrendered to authorities, Delaware State Police said Tuesday.

Police say 55-year-old Frank Maier of Abingdon, Md. was the top toll violator in the Delaware Department of Transportation's history, totaling $4,748 in unpaid tolls, and another approximately $30,000 in fees and penalties.

It is alleged that between the dates of Jan. 2, 2005 through Oct. 30, 2007, Maier would primarily use the I-95 toll plaza, which is just north of the Delaware/Maryland line. Police said he would travel through the E-ZPass-only lanes to avoid having to stop and pay the fees. According to police, Maier illegally traveled 633 times through DelDOT toll booths without paying.
