2. It's great to watch, isn't it?
Few people would ever believe all that goes on with a crew team... how much work is involved and how the strength comes from the legs. I proudly wear my callouses from the one quarter I rowed. The rest of the time I was a coxswain.

6. I really respect coxswains
A lot of rowers (that I know, anyway) don't, because they tend to think that it's "easy" to just sit there and yell...but I had to cox once when I first joined the crew team, and it was terrifying (not to mention painful - I'm 5'7" and have pretty broad hips, and to this day I don't know what possessed my coach to choose one of the largest women on the team to cox)! :scared: It was definitely a learning experience, though, and anyone who can steer a 60-foot-long boat (especially around other 60-foot-long boats!) and still be coordinated enough to spot problems and motivate the rowers has my undying respect and admiration. :)

*sigh* I loved rowing so much, and I really, really miss it - even the calluses, sore muscles, and insanely early mornings. :( Stupid back injury...
