is it a gussied up way of saying there's nothing new under the sun? That all writing is bound by or limited by what the author has previously read?
Is this a writing technique to hide an author's insecurity behind two dollar words? Or does it separate the men from the boys in terms of intellectual power? For example, I had to parse the sentence. An intellectual would simple absorb it whole, and chuckle smugly.
Anyway, after reading at this level, you can come away feeling intellectual yourself.
