My kitties are just like me.... |
|
They have to go on a diet!!!:) Went to the vet yesterday..one kitty is 1/2 lb overweight, the other a little over a lb overweight. Yes, I spoil them rotten! But seriously, I have to cut back on the kibble and increase the wet food. Since they like their wet food better that shouldn't be a problem. The vet recommended something from Royal Canin for dry food/weight control/dental health. Has anyone had experience with this brand of cat food? Do cats like it?

I've never heard of that food but I get the dry food that's for old cats. One of my cats had diabetus, he was very very fat but he lived to 18 anyway.

because she has to have "sensitive stomach" food. It was either Royal Canin or that Science Diet crap you have to buy at the vet.
She likes it, the other cats like it (even though they have their own regular food). I think it's one of the "good" brands. There are other brands that have weight loss blends though, so if they don't like it, try something else.
I have to say, I've never heard of putting cats on a diet over 1/2 a pound though. That seems kinda like overkill, unless he/she has been gaining a lot of weight recently.

5. The vet said she thought a bit of a diet was necessary |
|
because she has a bit of a belly--Sophie. However I agree the heavier cat, Smokie is a bit of a pig and probably needs a diet...Also, the vet said if I change their feeding habits they won't be such beggars when it comes to food.

I'm glad I don't take my cats to your vet! My oldest cat totally has a belly.
I guess I'm just of the opinion that indoor-only cats don't need to be svelte. As long as they're healthy and capable of playing and jumping, who cares if they're *slightly* overweight?
Besides, I'd feel really hypocritical if I put my cat on a diet because he has a belly...*looks in the mirror*... :P
But seriously, if your vet thinks it's necessary, go for it.

10. It does seem that diet is a huge factor. |
|
After the horrible gluten thing, we started feeding our girl Raw Advantage. I never bought the cheap food, but I think the gluten thing was more widespread that what we were told.
Raw Advantage is frozen ground meat and kelp and things. She loves it and has become sleeker and leaner. She has always had a lot of energy, but she seems to be more coordinated now, if that is possible.
