When I was a little kid, I thought there was actually such a thing as the Cat-hol-ic Church. And that it somehow involved the worship of cats, or alternately the worship by cats.

you realize that Lex Luthor (as played by Hackman) is about the best villain ever.

in all of cinema my favorite moment is when he decides to nuke many great cities and then gleefully adds Hackensack to the list ostensibly because his girlfriend's mother lives there.

all the mergers. You know, the Prussian Church that united Lutherans, Reformed, and pietists in 1817. And led Lutherans to break with the state church...and become the LCMS.

But if you want to come our direction, you're welcome!!

I understand the impetus behind it, and I really don't mind.

If you say "I'm a materialist" people think that means you're greedy. If you say "I'm a naturalist," people think that means you like hanging out in the woods with Grizzly Adams. The term "bright" is just an attempt to avoid confusion.

There's been some push to join, but many in the church are against it. Not based on anything about the UCC, just that we want to remain independent.

Ours is a very progressive church.

74. Die heretic scum!
Sorry...That exchange just reminded me of that classic joke:

Walking across a bridge, I saw a man on the edge, about to jump. I ran over and said: “Stop. Don’t do it.”

“Why not?” he asked.

“Well, there’s so much to live for!”

“Like what?”

“Are you religious?”

He said: “Yes.”

I said: “Me too. Are you Christian or Buddhist?”

“Christian.”

“Me, too. Are you Catholic or Protestant?”

“Protestant.”

“Me, too. Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?”

“Baptist.”

“Me, too. Are you Baptist Church of God or Church of the Lord?”

“Baptist Church of God.”

“Me, too. Are you original Baptist Church of God, or Reformed Baptist Church of God?”

“Reformed Baptist Church of God.”

“Me, too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?”

He said: “Reformation of 1915.”

I said: “Die, heretic scum,” and pushed him off.

62. None of the above
I'm eclectic in my beliefs, like most people who don't follow a strict faith.

According to the Belief-O-Matic, those religions with a higher than 50% agreement with my beliefs are as follows:

1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (96%)
3. Neo-Pagan (94%)
4. Nontheist (84%)
5. Liberal Quakers (79%)
6. New Age (75%)
7. Theravada Buddhism (70%)
8. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (67%)
9. Taoism (54%)
10. Reform Judaism (52%)

I know I'm not a Christian other than in the broadest of that religion, but some of the others definitely could qualify.

I am aware that I have a soul, I can feel it.

But I don't think there is one omnipotent god controlling everything, because it just doesn't make sense unless he is a narcissistic megalomaniac asshole. Which I would hope would not be the case.

I guess I am spiritual based on my own personal beliefs, experiences, and feelings.

They had these Friday night youth things after football or basketball games. Unlike the Independent Christian Church, the ECC let anyone come and didn't try to pressure you into joining or getting baptized or anything. Just free pizza and pop.

I liked 'em.
