Update on my friend who had the stroke
RE: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=7640278

By an incredible coincidence I happened to stop by his shop today to pick up an employee's laptop for some work, and Louis had just stopped in to say hi to his people. So I had the opportunity to find out how he is.

He's doing very good for someone who had 3 major strokes.

He's in amazing shape. It didn't affect his legs at all. He's still a bit dizzy, but how much of that is stroke and how much is drugs remains to be seen. He slurs his speech slightly- if you didn't know him you probably wouldn't even notice it. His eyes are slightly affected and his hearing is degraded- he says it sounds muffled, like he's under water. His balance is also a bit off, which is to be expected.

There's also some white hair that wasn't there before.

He's gonna be back at work in a couple weeks, or so he says. Great! I hope he overcomes this and is able to live a long long long long life.

I'd say he lucked out big time. :headbang:

1. That's good news that he's up and around.
I hope things continue to improve for him. Were they able to determine what caused the strokes?

 I'm glad your friend is doing so much better.

3. I didn't inquire about details.
I'm sure everyone who talks to him is asking him the same things over and over. I just shook his hand and let him tell me what he wanted to.

5. Oh I understand.
I'm so glad he's doing ok. I was curious because my dad had a stroke caused by blockage of his carotid arteries. He survived with only having a 5% blood flow to his brain. He had surgery on one side but the surgeons left the other side as it was, nearly blocked. Although he had some irreversible damage, a limp and as he used to put it, the words were in his brain but couldn't always get to his mouth, he lived another 10 yrs.

Best wishes to your friend.

2. My dear Prisoner_Number_Six!
That is such great news!

I am very relieved to hear it...

I hope he does well too!

And as time goes by, he should improve even more!

Good luck, and good medical care, are what did it for him!

:hi:

4. I had a friend whose mother had a stroke. She lived and perhaps still lives
a generation or two later.

Plus people can snap out of it. The brain can heal itself.
