Help me out: What should I buy for my cold when I go to the store?
Not medical advice, don't really want any cold medicine that just masks the symptoms and makes me feel worse when it wears off...

I need some kind of soup, not up to cooking from scratch...What brand? I hate Campbell's crap, so that's out.

I need tissues...We're def. out of tissues.

Saline nasal spray? Shower Soothers? Vitamin C drops?

Oh yeah, OJ, need more OJ, since I'm hooked on the crap anyway, and we're out.

Help! :hi:

gotta stop typing....nose is in need of blowing...again!

3. Oh yes, I like those kind of tissues too! Thanks!
I'm a miserable person when I'm sick...lucky for Sniffa, he's at work. :P

It is a beautiful day out, once I muster the energy to leave the house, I may sit out on the porch and read. I bet fresh air will be better than staying in this dry stuffy apartment. :)

2. Whiskey
And Progresso chicken and wild rice soup. Eat the soup, do two shots of whiskey, get under the covers and sweat it out.

That's what my high school Latin teacher always recommended. Odd that he never got in trouble for telling teenagers to drink whiskey...

27. Actually, my friend's sure-fire cold treatment is an ounce of ginger brandy...
...and a lot of sleep which the brandy facilitates. That's what his parents' gave him when he was small.

5. Tabatchnik frozen soups are good.
I also like Hanover frozen soup mix. Just add cooked chicken...You can get that pre-packaged in the deli aisle.

Start these now at the beginning of your cold, and it will shorten the duration.
Works everytime for me!

Get well quickly!

8. get some chicken stock
and doctor up some ramen noodles - toss some fresh veggies, ginger and garlic in sesame oil, add stock, boil, add noodles *voila* yummy, pseudo-healthy and you can actually taste it.

Also, pick up a neti pot or saline for your little nose.

Feel better hon :pals:

9. Progresso chicken was my cold remedy, and I added hot peppers.
If you can stand it, add some Tabasco style hot sauce. It'll help open your sinuses.

Mint tea is another good cold remedy, or just about any tea with a generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

21. Cayenne in cold juice is also very relieving.
Sorry. I am kind of a cayenne freak. I have smoked cayenne and the burn in my lungs was really soothing - not pure cayenne; it was blended with sage.

16. Fresh cayenne, lemon or grapefruit, favorite tea
Combine to taste.

The cayenne will help your nose (and eyes) run, soothe your throat (I know it is counter intuitive, but the burn is so soothing; gargle). Citrus adds vitamin C. Maybe a little caffeinated tea to give you a butt kick.

Licorice is great for a cough.

22. Olive oil, fresh basil, salt and as much garlic as you can stand.
Blend to taste.

Raw pesto is my wife's cold killer. Basil is good for loosening mucous and "lung regeneration" (hinthint smokers)

Sorry. I love using foods to heal and colds are easy.

23. Soup is good of course but also Tea
With Honey - probably as cloche as chicken soup but it always helps me, and lemon if you like.

Sorry I don't have a recommendation on soup brand, you're right to stay away from Campbell - yuck - maybe if you have a Panera near by you can get a nice Chicken or if you're up to it Lentil soup.

25. Masking the symptoms will allow you to sleep.
Anyway, there is nothing wrong with being reasonably comfortable when you are sick. Talk to someone who knows, but my understanding is that decongestants will help you get over it and that Tylenol will reduce fever if you have one and general aches. Fevers are bad.

Also, I like those little electric things that emit a menthol smell for decongesting.

Avoid dairy products. Drink hot liquids like soup. That saline nose rinse is dah-bomb. That will clear it out pretty quickly. Also, avoid high-altitude mountain-climbing in the next couple days.

I can only hope you feel better soon.

I'll send you the recipe for my homemade garlic soup. Freeze it in small batches for medicinal purposes. It'll send any self-respecting germ running for its life. And it's yummy, too.
