1. used to be Safeway but
I found them on the site where you can go see what kind of politicians companies have contributed to, they've given a lot to the wrong people, so I switched to Giant, it's closer to my house anyway and I have to walk so it's good.

15. Now that sucks.....
It seems that where ever I have lived in this town, Safeway was always the closest grocery store, so it was usually the one I end up going to the most. Probably more so since gas prices jumped the shark. Hell, I actually buy my gas there, for that matter.

But if they're evil Republicans, that means I would have to use more gas to go somewhere else. And ALL gas companies are evil.

What a dillemma :evilfrown:

23. truly, a dilemma
I tried to tell myself it wasn't so important, and Safeway does contribute to NPR I noticed, which means something. But the fact they contributed to campaign funding made me sick. Like so does Home Depot and I can't live without that kinda stuff sometimes :grr:
I was totally into safeway's lay-out too, it's taken me years to learn the Giant store.. but I feel a little better anyway, for the 2cents it's worth.

Dominick's has everything and pretty reasonable prices.

6. Other: Whole Foods
The rare times I need things I can't get at (or won't pay a slightly higher price for) at Whole Foods, like kitty litter, I go to Kroger's. Sometimes I'll stop at HEB.

This is one of my favorite stores, though it's not a chain: Phoenicia :)

I prefer Coborns over Cub. I feel like I am at the wally world of grocery stores when I go there.

In St Cloud, there is not a lot of selection, Coborns, or Byerlys/Lunds or you go to Cub.

Living in the cities, I go to Kowalksi's a lot, or Byerlys/Lunds or the Co-op. When the Farmers Markets are going, I go to them as well.

Publix seems classier than other chains, at least by appearance. Plus, I love their store brands of frozen yogurt, far superior to the brand name crap I'm forced to deal with in the West.

They are pretty good, probably the best chain in Florida. Although I have a soft spot for Winn Dixie, although that's more of a sentimental favorite, as Publix generally has better quality and selection.

25. H.E.B.
Stands for H.E. Butt, the guy who started the chain in Kerrville, Texas (near San Antonio.) H.E.B. owns Central Market and the "regular" stores carry a lot of Central Market products. They also have a tradition of giving to the community. I've been shopping at H.E.B. since I was in college in the 70's -- they didn't sell beer there or until the founder, a staunch Baptist, died.

Haggan in Portland and Bruno's in Mobile. Randall's in Houston used to be really good until Safeway bought them out.

There was a town near Banff that got 50cm as well, in one day...mind you, that would be good for business.

56. Why, yes, I can tell you...
...if you will listen to another elitist like me ;)

When you make a post, there is a link above your subject line that says "HTML lookup table". If you click on that (and have your popup-killer turned off) it will show a little window with examples of how to do all kinds of coding, including HTML.

I tried to write out how to do that in addition to what the lookup table says, but it simply interprets my code as code and not an example. I'll try again, tho.

Type the following out -

link: (url minus the http : // part and without the spaces anywhere in this)| (that's the symbol over the backslash symbol) The text you want linked

enclose all that with the bracket symbols, next to the "P" on your keyboard :)

Once you learn it and can make it work (always check it in Preview) you'll be linking like a pro!

Really good dirt. They are one of my favorite vegetables. Cold borscht - very red and with a dollop of sour cream. Yummy.

I had it first at the Russian Tea Room in NYC and have been a fan since then.

Then again, it's a peasant food and probably not available at THE whole foods.

Yes, we Whole Foods shoppers are so elitist that we won't even buy natural, organic produce (fresh, canned or frozen) including beets! Anything of the Earth is so-o "beneath" us

On beets and eating recipes made with them...to itch their own :)
Although, as a kid, I didn't like turnips. I later had some good ones that tasted great. Can't say I buy them now, but at least if I want to, there would be organic choices, "whole food" choices

Because nothing says savings on your food bill like the possibility of lethal assault or dismemberment at the hands of a mentally ill grocer.

because there were a few in California. None of them sounds familiar otherwise.

In Massachusetts (and I assume most of New England), there are Stop and Shop, Shaw's, Big Y, a few Hannafords, and Price Chopper for the most part. I like Shaw's the most, but as I have a Stop and Shop closest to me, that's where I end up doing most of my shopping. My friend Steve likes Price Chopper, but I hate it. (don't care for their produce, mostly, but it always smells like bleach, too)

In California, I liked Lucky's until Albertsons took over. Those bastards rose the price on everything and nearly doubled the grocery bill.

71. Wow - am I the first to mention Shop Rite?
Wakefern Food Corp.

A 200+ store chain in the Northeast region of the US.

Great food, great prices.....plus some killer sales, and free turkeys and hams for the holidays.

The crowds can be annoying, but I'd rather deal with that, than doubling my food bill by using Albertsons (Acme Food Market).

73. Giant
In the Maryland and Virginia region was always good growing up. I remember for a while they actually had soft serve frozen yogurt, although they've discontinued that since. I don't know if they are as good as they were 10 years ago or so, as they don't have Giant in Florida.

77. Dick's Supermarkets, home of the infamous "Dick's Insider Club"
I only mention Dick's because of the name of the savings card... Sadly, I believe Dick's was taken over by Piggly Wiggly.

Been a Trader Joe's shopper for over 20 years and I love that place. I really like Publix, too, even though I think the closest one is over 1000 miles away.
:hi:

Now it's Kroger and Costco. I wish I had a Trader Joe's. There are none in the region I live in.
