Public record searches are strange...
I was playing around with some reference database searches, and I come to one that promises a "free" public records search. Since I'm currently fighting with the state of Utah for some unclaimed property, I decide to put in my name to see what comes up.
Well, it takes me to a pay engine called "Intellius." One of the 15 people who live in Kansas and share my name is me. Of course, they tell me nothing of real value, I have to pay to get that.
But here's what was strange: in listing my "relatives," the only correct name is my mother, who is deceased. I have never heard of any of the 6 other people who are supposedly my relatives. The only thing we have in common is a last name.
Now I'm curious about what else is on this "report" about me, but don't want to pay the $50 to find out. I know for sure this entry is me, because they have my current city, plus several addresses I had in Utah, and also my age, correct. But where did they find all these relatives?
At least I've pulled my credit reports for the year and gotten them straightened out...
