1. You're so cute!
HEre's me today. I got my hair cut AGAIN.

You look like a friend of mine's mom when she was your age. I mean, you guys could be twins! And I always thought she was gorgeous too.

109. I like your hair!
did you get it straightened, too? -- didn't I read earlier that you were going to do that?

I like this cut b/c it really lets your purty face shine through!

Just too expensive to live there (My brother-in-law lives there).

My wife has been there several times, I have yet to see it. Hopefully this summer I can make it up there. If it is anything like Chicago or New York I will love it.

You ever get down around my way? Would love to meet someone else from DU!

63. Rubber chickens have their proper uses.
What you did was outside that realm. Can't blame the chicken for that.

Now if you were going to use it to slide across a rope from one island to another, that would be a proper usage.

Provided it was one of those rubber chickens that has a pulley in the middle.

59. Unfortunately most of my programming knowledge is a few generations out of date.
Edited on Sat Apr-19-08 09:54 PM by DarkTirade
I've only dabbled in post-Windows programming. Most of my practical knowledge is from the DOS and Windows 3.1 era.

Started to fall behind a few years back and just never got back up to speed enough to catch up to the times. :(

65. Not all that hard
Just have to jump into OOP and such :)

I started programming at 13 on a TRS 80 model 1 (basic and assembly language).

Things are a lot better now for us coders. And you can Download VB/etc for free and start coding windows apps pretty painlessly. I am working on one now to monitor our servers and do reporting (not to mention you can get things like PERL for free as well).

If you ever need some help on it all shoot me a PM.

70. I'd need to start from scratch really.
I've dabbled a bit in VisualStudio.net, and I'd like to learn C# to toy around with some of the software Microsoft put out for game development. But I was out of the game long enough that it's kinda hard to get back in.

So for now I'm being cheap and using a gamemaker program. :P So I'm still coding and working those brain muscles, but it's using a fairly simple scripting language that's specific to that gamemaker program.

84. Since there were discussions of skating and hockey...

I'm the goalie making the save. Flailing because they made a great pass. So I'm not smiling in the picture, but I was afterward. :-)

I'm not much of a sports person, but I was thinking about trying hockey now that I'm fairly certain on my feet.

Or rather, on my skates. :P

88. I didn't teach myself to skate until I was 26.
I started buying gear and renting the ice, and was playing in a recreational league the next year.

It's so much fun. Especially since I'm not good enough to be in the upper leagues, I'm in the one with the most diverse cast. Women, 60 year old guys, local doctors, veterinarians, mechanics, engineers, etc. It's a blast. Both teams can go out and drink after the game.

In the upper leagues, they get way too competitive, and people don't even like the people on their own team.

90. What a coincidence... I just started skating right after I turned 26...
I'd skated a few times before when I was younger and loved it, but unfortunately I lived in central FL, and there was only one decent rink around. My brother worked there and he got me in a couple times. Then he got fired, and shortly afterwards it closed down when I was 13 or 14. (I'm thinking bad management was the cause of both those events. :P )

But I just moved to a place where there are plenty of rinks so I started up again. Realized I was going often enough to justify buying my own skates, so I did. Although the rink I've been going to just closed down for the summer, so I'm gonna have to go to the expensive rink instead. Blech. Thankfully I'm getting a decent tax return, so I figure I'll use some of that to buy me some rollerblades. Not quite the same, but close enough to keep in practice without paying 7 bucks a day for the expensive rink.

92. I hate it when they charge that much to do laps.

I used to try and go 2-3 times a week. It took me about a year to get up the nerve and ability to turn and skate backwards. And the hockey stop came one day. And all of a sudden I could stop on all 4 edges. It was just like a light switch was thrown.

I've never rollerbladed, I've been tempted, but I like the ability to fall and slide without leaving skin and body parts on the cement.

99. Yeah, I just figured out hockey stops a month ago
and skating backwards two weeks ago. :)

For hockey stops I just practiced snowplow stops, then practicted doing them with just one skate, then got comfortable enough with them to let my body turn while doing it on one skate and voila. Hockey stop.

The backwards thing was a little harder. For some reason I just couldn't get moving. I finally figured it out by accident a couple weeks ago, then figured out what I'd done so I could duplicate it. :)

100. That is exactly how I did it.
It takes a while to figure out how much weight goes onto the skate and at what angle so you don't catapult.

The worst thing for me was trying to learn to skate when all the 6 year olds were skating like Gretzky. The ego sees that and says, if they can do it, *I* can do it. And then I'd fall.

101. That was annoying, but for me the worst part was when the 6 year olds were skating like 6 year olds.
I weigh over 200 pounds... and up until a couple weeks ago, I couldn't stop very well.

So when you've got a horde of little kids underfoot, falling down or running off in random directions without bothering to look behind them... yeah. I was a wee bit worried that I was gonna kill somebody.

102. The first move I learned was how to pick up a 6 year old
so I'd land on my back and not crush them.

I was 235 when I started skating. I lost 75 pounds when I started playing.

105. Yeah, I think I was somewhere in the 235-245 range when I started
Although since I spent the last three years before I moved doing heavy manual labor for a living, I can honestly say that a lot of it's muscle. :)

I haven't weighed myself lately so I don't know what I'm down to, but I just noticed that my jeans are starting to fall off me. So part of my tax refund is gonna go towards a new belt.

111. I didn't have an ounce of muscle.

I went from a 40 waist to a 32, so I bought new pants. Either that or I would have had to use staples to keep the old ones up.

112. Yeah, before I worked in the warehouse I was in about that shape.
I had a little bit of leg muscle from walking everywhere because I didn't have a car, and some forearm muscle because I was working at a pizza place and kneading/rolling dough at least an hour a day. :P But that was it.

Then the warehouse job transformed me. I lost about 15 pounds... then suddenly stopped losing weight. Because it was just being transformed into muscle. Then I moved up here and put on a little weight because I wasn't doing heavy labor for 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week. I think I'm back down to about what I was when I got here, maybe slightly less.

Inner mirth. ;)

I'll search for one of mine to post (that I haven't put up a gazillion times...)

Here's one: an extraordinary day during a sailing course last summer. We'd spent all day sailing south to NJ, had anchored at sunset, and gone over the day with our skipper and some beers. When the pic was taken, they had all gone ashore for the night, leaving me aboard for the night at our anchorage. I dead-tired, but elated! :)
