1. I miss my L.L. Bean boots!!!
The weather is totally beautiful now, so it would be churlish if not insane to complain, but as the season first started to turn and the snow that had been on the ground all winter melted, I was a little sad. I missed snow. I loved making new paths through fresh snow with my Bean boots. Thermoplastic soles...snow tires for the feet..sweet.

3. I have a hat like that!!!
The people that laugh at my hat are usually the same ones that end up complaining how cold it is! If only they had a hat like mine - or yours! :) I do NOT miss snow, though.

14. I hear you!
First significant snowfall, everything looks pristine and undisturbed. There's an extraordinary quiet that seems to settle, just like the snow. After that, it's just a pain in the ass :)

My all-time favorite warmest hat/cap/bonnet was made from a de-quilled porcupine with silky ties under the chin.

21. But why remove the quills?!!
Reminds me of the Nightmare before Christmas:

Won't they be impressed.
I am a genius.
See how I transform this old rat
into a most delightful hat,
hmm...
My compliments from me to you
on this your most intriguing hat.
Consider, though, this substitute.
A bat in place of this old rat.
Huh. No, no, no. Now, that's all wrong.
This thing will never make a present.
It's been dead for much too long.
Try something fresher, something pleasant.
Try again, don't give up!

Without the quills, it was the softest fur you could imagine. It had a silky hood-type lining and was the warmest bonnet-type hat ever.

It couldn't last forever; I guess I wore it out over many years.

and we had snow last week but the house was hot enough to nearly require the AC today. Weird fucking weather. But you know, in WI you never know what you're going to get so I could end up needing the Ugg boots another time or two before it's officially mosquito season.

38. Remember that song, "Summertime"?
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 05:45 PM by sammythecat
It's been done by virtually everybody and it's one of my all-time favorites. I think the first line goes, "Summertime, and the livin' is easy".

Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit! It ain't. There's a ton of shit that needs to be done in the summer. Continuously. Non-stop chores inside 'n out. Give me the deepest, darkest, depths of January. An hour or two of shoveling now and then, wash the dishes, vacuum the floors, and...done! Nothing to do now but relax.

I do love a sparkling summer day, but I'll always have a place in my heart for a cold, sleety, November weekend as well.

41. Me too.... I keep waiting for the "onion snow" that never arrived....
The spring flowers are beautiful, but soon we will have the insect plagues, heat waves, high humidity, inevitable drought, and temperature inversions.

I love the way winter smells, especially the clean, cold air of a snowy day. Sigh....
