Spring has just arrived!
On the wings of the mockingbird...

I just realized that I'm hearing at least one of them sing!

I love them!

One night, shortly after we'd moved here into our new home, I was trying to go to sleep...

But I didn't want to!

Why?

The full moonlight was spilling across the floor and it was glorious!

Plus, a mockingbird was singing its heart out!

But I was tired, and soon I was gone...

Definitely a sign of spring, for me, anyway...

1. Peggy--love your signs of spring!
Absolutely beautiful--don't you just love that bubble of excitement burgeoning in your heart that won't let you rest?

Our signs of spring were less romantic today, but no less valid: Mr. MG and a friend finally tore down the splinter-laden, nail-bursting shambles that previous owners of this home called a "deck" (and I use that term in a very loose sense). I am grateful that nobody in my family broke their neck on the uneven, too-shallow stairs in the 2 1/2 years we lived here before we got around to shredding that thing.

And tonight, alas, came the hoary sounds of Grateful Dead bootleg tapes from our skanky neighbor's front porch, along with his loud drunken ramblings as he sat pickling his liver with his friends.

The good news is it was hot enough in MG Jr.'s room to put the window fan in to drown out Bob and his cronies, and it made the room actually comfortable.

Spring indeed! :hi:

4. My dear MorningGlow!
Thank you for rescuing my thread, sweetie!

I'd thought it had gone to thread heaven...

You had a most productive day...

And yes, I do love that bubble of excitement as much as you do...

Sorry your neighbor is so damn skanky!

Will you be replacing the "deck"?

Enjoy your spring!

5. My dear lost...
I've never been able to count their songs...

There are normally several of them singing, and their voices blend...

I'm not sure we have mourning doves here...

I loved the pic you got of one at LynneSin's!

6. My dear Straight Story...
Actually, I'm not feeling the words trying to get out tonight...

It's been a strange day for me, emotionally...

But never fear, one of these days, there will be another poem...

And I'll post it...

Thank you for being here, for me...

7. I love listening to the mockingbird sing.
Edited on Sun Apr-20-08 11:26 PM by notmyprez
I heard one last week for the first time this year. But I had noticed spring a couple of weeks ago when I saw a couple of robins in my front yard, with more of them in the schoolyard across the street.

9. My dear notmyprez!
Actually, you're right...

We've been having true spring weather for some weeks now...

But I wanted a catchy thread title, ya know?

No robins here, alas...

8. Hi Peggy!
There's a fantastic story about a mockingbird (among others) in this book: http://www.amazon.com/Divorce-Among-Gulls-Uncommon-Nature/dp/0865475008 :hi:
