My cellular service provider tells me that I can download ringtones onto my phone - but the catch is that the ringtones have to be from their libraries so that they can make even more money off of you.

So what did I do? I removed the memory card from my cell phone, tinkered around with the files a little bit, and stuck the card back in my phone. Now, whenever someone calls me, I will be alerted with the soothing sounds of Goa trance, c/o our friends from S.U.N. Project. Take that, content gatekeepers!

Of course, I could follow it up with a few custom-made Prefuse 73 ringtones, but what would Three 6 Mafia have to say about that?

3. I love that I can take snippets of my own mp3s and make ringtones for my phone
I have a Motorola RAZR and a cord that plugs into my computer...

Mine's a RAZR, too. Love it. And that thing you did with MP3s? I did something similar. :hi:

6. Actually, no...
I take the microSD card out of my phone and shove it into a slot on my laptop. Then I use an MP3 editor to get the songs cut down to size and place them on the microSD using a little trickery. Then the microSD goes back in the phone and voila! Instant DIY ringtones.

7. Ah, the HARD way!
:D

The cool thing about the phone tools is that I can take a pic with the phone and upload it to my computer completely bypassing the pay extra for SMS message feature.

10. T-mobile?
how the hell do you do that. I started customizing mine at 24 hours, and while I have some kick ass background pictures, using music for ring tones is proving more difficult. i am now at 48 hours and still stuck.

14. Sometimes I can send mp3s to my phone, sometimes I can't.
Sometimes, the files will go through with their original quality. Sometimes, they'll show up with reduced quality. Can't figure out why.

My ringtone is Strong Bad performing "The System Is Down."
