World Wide Beer Shortage
This is not good, not good at all
http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/04/effects-of-global-warming-beer-shortage.php

perfect storm is brewing, coming together with the potential to create a shortage in the world's beer supply. In addition to an ongoing hops shortage, which we first reported last year, failed barley crops are causing further concern in the beer brewing industry, and we can chalk it up to the effects of global warming.

1. I've been stockpiling beer and ammunition for some time.
I rotate stock, so as to not lose hops freshness.

I'm ready for Brewer's Thunderdome.

5. Isn't it odd that the vegans and veggies are the stockpilers?
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 09:45 PM by JanMichael
Not really. Count me in!

I'm a hard Lefty that believes in enough ammo to "get away" and a good stockpile of tasty consumables.

Preservation and protection first i say!

6. Because
we "do without" a bit, so what we really like, we stockpile. THEN, we stockpile protection for those things (planners we are, the lot of us).

I've gone one better, by stockpiling pitbulls as well. They're vegetarian, but they would be ill-tempered if one invaded our domain.

13. Presages the fall of Western civilization
It all started with the first writing, those Sumerians and their beer recipes ....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninkasi

"Ninkasi is the ancient Sumerian matron goddess of beer.

Her father was Enki, the lord Nudimmud, and her mother was Ninti, the queen of the Abzu. She is also one of the eight children created in order to heal one of the eight wounds that Enki receives. Furthermore, she is the goddess of alcohol. She was also borne of "sparkling fresh water." She is the goddess made to "satisfy the desire" and "sate the heart."

The Anchor Brewing Company in 1989 produced a limited edition of beer (known in Sumerian as sikaru) under the Ninkasi label, based on a scholarly reconstruction of the ancient Sumerian recipe. The recipe started with a twice-baked bread known as bappir as well as malt, and was sweetened with honey and dates. It did not include hops or other bittering ingredients, so it was considerably sweeter than modern beers. The recipe is described in Charlie Papazian's Home Brewer's Companion (1994 ed., ISBN 0380772876)."

14. Costco has started limiting purchases
The Costco stores in my area have started limiting how much you can purchase of certain items, like rice, flour, vegetable oil. I haven't checked the beer aisle.

Now why someone would need more than one 20 lb bag o' rice a month is beyond me, but they do have signs up saying one per customer.
