16. Mine was stubborn and didn't want to come out.
She was late for her own birthday and because of dopey daylight saving time she was born the next day. One of those midnight babies; between two days.

4. Metamorphosis is one of the coolest things nature's ever invented
To think that a caterpillar wraps itself up in a cocoon, then just completely rearranges its whole physiology, makes new parts (wings), comes out of the cocoon and flies away.
Brilliant.
And the whole process is solely to be able to fly and meet a mate and make new eggs and die.
Life - what a long strange trip it's been!

6. sweet cicada action
I like the bugs really but we had those 13-year or 15-year or whatever cicadas here a couple of years ago. When they started dying and getting run over and stepped on it was like insect guts poured over every inch of the city, IT GOT SO GROSS.
They only really bothered me when one got stuck in my hair though.

9. Remember the scene from "Spaceballs"?
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 11:23 AM by krispos42
Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal,
Send my a kiss by wire,
Baby my heart's on fire,
If you refuse me,
Honey you lose me,
Then you'll be all alone,
I'm sayin' telephone,
And tell me I'm your own!!!"

CHECK PLEASE!

What is truly scary is that I didn't need to look up the words to that song. At all.

17. From Harpers Mag this month. "Butterflies and moths remember their lives as caterpillars."
No link. That was just from the random stuff in "Findings" on the last page. But the idea is intriguing. The memory of 17 yrs living in the dirt would probably be pretty horrific though.

Maybe that's why so many of them do headers on windshields.
