1. Here.
:)

I've read all the novels (except Small Favor, even though I own it) and I have the first season of the show on iTunes.

3. I'm closing in on the end of Small Favor
now, and it's pretty good. This one doesn't have the great expositional "stream-of-consciousness" as much though, but all the "regulars" are back.

There is going to be a graphic novel/comic book coming out called "Welcome to the Jungle" which is positioned before Storm Front timewise which should be interesting, and Thomas is going to be given a novella for himself.

Unfortunately, there is only that one season of the TV show, but I prefer the books, because there are just too many things they changed with the series. The one thing I liked about the show, though, is they depicted Bob as a human, which, to me, is more visual than a couple of orange lights in a skull.

Funny thing, though--Paul Blackthorne is British, playing a Chicagoan, and Terrence Mann is from Kentucky, playing a Brit.

5. I saw a different episode of "Storm Front"...
which was two hours long instead of the hour long episode, and Bob was a talking skull with flashing eye sockets. I kinda liked it. But I hate how they changed Harry. I would have liked to see his duster, his blue beetle, etc. It would've been nice to see Michael Carpenter as well (but not his wife. She was mean) and fairies.

6. I would have liked to have seen the duster, too,
but they had an explanation for the lack of the Blue Beetle, which is ironic--Paul Blackthorne is 6'3" and he couldn't fit his legs into it!

They changed Murphy's first name because there is actually a Karyn Murphy on the CPD. :)

And of course, Morgan's whole character was different, and Bianca was not the evil bitch she was in the books.

Thomas, Bob, Mouse (or is that Moose? :) and Mister are my favorites--I'd love to see who they would have cast as Thomas. Yum, yum. :9

Michael is pretty cool, but I would like to have seen Billy and the Alphas, or Kincaid and Ivy.

I've already mentally cast Louis Jourdan as Nicodemus, Brigitte Nielsen as Gard, and a couple of others, though I can't remember the actors' names, just an image in my mind. If I work on it long enough, I'll remember. :)

Why couldn't they use the name?

17. If a person exists
and a character has the same name, they usually have to change the name. It's mostly used in cases where a character is a bad guy, but in the case of a "public servant" like a police officer, they don't want any confusion as to whether the character was somehow based on the real person. It's okay in the book, as the spelling of the name is different, and not as many people read the books and associate the name with a real person. But when someone voices a name, the spelling and such things don't matter. So they have to change the name.

It's also partly a privacy matter--in the old days, telephones, for example, were not as ubiquitous as they are now, and exchanges were used. People used to call the phone numbers mentioned in the TV shows and movies, and people were annoyed and scared after a while. Nowadays, they always use "555" as the exchange, and because it isn't an actually used exchange, phone users aren't as compromised.

7. follow-up
I finished Small Favor. It has its good points. I was a little disappointed with it, though. I've already started to re-read them again, from #1, and I'm on #3, which is my least favorite of the books. The proofreading on #3 sucks bigtime. Perhaps because I was an English major and editor myself, but there is just something really wrong when a book in in a multiple printing, and the errors are still so blatant.

But read Small Favor and see what you think. I do like the fact that more characters are involved, but some characters are downplayed a little too much.

15. Oh I won't be on that book for a while.
I'm reading book three of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Storm of Swords, and them I'm going to read A Feast for Crows. Then after that I'm going to be reading The Sword of Truth series. Hopefully I'll read Small Favor after that. I'll bookmark this thread to let you know what I think of Small Favor when I get done with it. :hi:

2. Loved the Dresden Files.
Wasn't that only on for one season? I never did understand why they canceled it.

4. Yeah
one season. Jim Butcher said he gets the rights back from Lionsgate in 4 more years, so if they want to do something else with it, like a movie, he can't do anything about it until then.

Here's the link to the article on the graphic novel:

10. me, either. I really really liked the SciFi series, and was
baffled when it wasn't renewed, because there's pretty much nothing but shit on the channel these days.

Anyone know if Eureka is coming back to SciFi?

Maybe I'll check out the Dresden books...

14. Eureka is coming back
Which is good. I think you might like Burn Notice and Psych on USA, which are also entertaining. (Bruce Campbell is in Burn Notice)

I'm finding, except for Medium on NBC and my cop/procedural drama shows on CBS, that I watch extremely little of network television. USA and SF still thrill, even if they are now owned through NBC.

8. The TV show or the novels?
I've never read the novels, but the TV show was hilarious.

His wizard's staff was a hockey stick, and his wand was a drum stick. Plus he's supposedly based out of Chicago, right?

9. Yeah
The books are good. The TV series not so much. In the books, he has a real staff and no wand. He has what he calls a "blasting rod" which sounds more in size like a beat cop's stick.

And yes, the series is based in Chicago. I like the "Bob" of the series more than in the books, but the Bob in the books is a lot sassier. Too many parts of the series ran against form from the novels.

I loved the book series.I am reading the latest one now "Small Favor" I also thought the TV series was O.K.
Butchers other book series "The Codex Alera" are excellent too.
If you like Jim Butcher's books You might also really like Simon Green's Tales from the nightside series.
And for a really cool female antagonist. Kim Harrison's "The Hollow's series' rocks!
