UC Santa Cruz to get Grateful Dead archives
SAN FRANCISCO -- The surviving members of the Grateful Dead are turning over the rock band's archives to the University of California at Santa Cruz.
Dennis McNally, a spokesman for ex-Dead guitarist Bob Weir, says the Weir and drummer Mickey Hart are going to announce a partnership with the university Thursday. The announcement will take place at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium, where the Grateful Dead played many of its legendary shows.

McNally says the archive will hold the band's correspondence and other memorabilia, but not its recordings.

A spokesman for UC Santa Cruz would not comment on the details of the deal ahead of Thursday's planned announcement.

I can't think of a better place for it. And a loud "Right on" was heard from the Boardwalk to the Campus.

1. My alma mater! How fitting.
:toast: :smoke:

Did you see the hilarious pic on the cover of The Sentinel the other day, btw? It was taken on 4/20 up on campus on the field above Porter College.

HUGE cloud of smoke hanging above all these kids' heads as they were partaking and enjoying .

Pretty funny.

2. Heheh
yeah, that was great. This is the only pic I can find now. The Sentinel's site has some better ones, but they're in a flash player slideshow.

3. As soon as I saw it, I laughed and then said that they would catch a lot of shit about it
the next day, via letters and whatnot.

I was totally right.

People were outraged.

heh.

6. One of the SF newscasts had that
They treated it like, "Hey, here's a whole mess o' people smoking dope. How cool."

I suspect they got some nasty letters from Freeper types. :)

4. And it makes me wonder what college will get Brittney Spears' archives - Harvard? Princeton?
I'm sure it will be an Ivy League school, given her incredible gifts to humanity.

:eyes:

Anyway, I'm glad to hear this! That's the perfect place to get the Dead's archives! They will be lovingly cared for, and I can now see a whole generation of Ph.D.s in Grateful Dead studies.

Fantastic!
