Dammit, my name is NOT HEIDI!! (rant)
My last name is Heidebrecht and throughout my life I have been called "Heidi" by idiots. Not as a nickname or a joke: it is because people are idiots that they call me Heidi. They see the last name and for some unknown reason I become a giddy little goat herder flouncing across verdant fields in dirndl & pigtails.

Do I look like a goat herder in a dirndl?!

I just sent this email to a total moran at a health care supplies website which shall be nameless.

"Since I'll probably order from <site> again, I added you to my address book so you won't be blocked in the future.

"But please. Please. Please! note:

"My name is not Heidi!!

"Look at my order: my name is K.J.

"Look at my email address: it's "notheidi" -- as in, "not Heidi" -- hello!

"If anyone else from <site> addresses me as "Heidi," I will NOT order from that site again, and I'll spread the word that <site> is run by poorly-programmed Bots."

Jesus H. Christ on a raft! :grr:

15. Goat Peter is the
young goat herder who becomes Heidi's friend after she goes to live with her grandfather.

Another author wrote two sequels to the original book, and in them, Heidi and Goat Peter grew up and got married.

The original and the two sequels were some of my favorite books when I was 10-11 years old.

30. Close, but
I didn't want the image in the thread, just a text link that would lead to the image.

That way the bandwidth usage might be a little reduced.

OTOH I did do it 'cause its a cute image.

6. I think Heidi is a cute name
One of my English professor's first name is Heidi. She's just as cute as the name implies. Now only if she graded papers as cute as she is. I've worked my butt off on my first two papers only to get two C minuses. She's a tough one. Don't let that name and those looks fool you.

Make those bastards address you properly!!

I signed up for Infone a long time ago, when it was new and I had a job. They're required to address you any way you want them to. When you do the voice-recognition thing, they have to pop up and say, "Hello, (preferred name)."

I made them call me "Madame (my first name)." (Mostly for fun -- it always made them laugh).

but I don't understand why they call you Heidi. Do they think your name is Heide Brecht? I don't see how they get Heidi out of K.J. Heidebrecht - in an email, on the phone, or in person.

I always get called Danielle, which is not my name and there's no reason to think it should be pronounced that way. But people are lazy and it's not worth correcting them because it invariably leads to a discussion of my actual name, which is very unusual, and how I got it. I don't enjoy being a conversation piece. I'm 6'1" - which is not a big deal anymore, but it was when I was growing up - and it made me very self-conscious. At some point people stopped talking about my height, but I still have to talk about my name every time I introduce myself. It's like being public property. I'm an introvert!

Oh, and they assume I'm a guy because my name consists of a man's name with a feminine prefix. And I have two last names. How many guys have two last names? Yet I'm always getting letters addressed to Mr. and dealing with surprised telephone callers who expected a man to answer.

And don't get me started about the problems of having two last names. I think I posted about that not too long ago.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'd enjoy being a Heidi. Heidi Smith.

43. How about Heidi Fleiss? ;-) But seriously . . . get this:
I went by my stepfather's last name (he never adopted me, TG for small favors) for a number of years when I was a kid. When I got my driver's license I took back my name, and when I started my senior year in high school I changed all my school records.

On the first day of choir rehearsal that year, the teacher was checking the roll and, having trouble pronouncing it (like everyone does, no big deal) called out "Heideee... Heideee -- brecht." He looked up and found me and said, "That's right, you told me about this last year, you're changing your name."

All that year, a kid in the choir called me Heidi. After months of wondering why he was doing this, I finally stopped him and asked, "Why do you keep calling me Heidi?" He said, "Didn't you change your name to Heidi Brecht?"

:grr:

BTW, I know it can be annoying to be thought a man. Many who see me assume I'm a guy because of my short hair, especially when it's freshly cut. I guess they don't see the tits.
