Something terrible happened
or perhaps merciful. My cousin's son died. 8 months old. He was born with a fast growing tumour on his head. Within a couple days it was bigger than his head. They cut it off along with his ear and part of his face. Chemo... Radiation... Then the cancer came back all through his body. Yesterday they put him in a drug induced coma to stop the pain, told his mother to take him home (he'd never left the hospital) and said 24 hours at most. And he died this afternoon.

What a fucked up world this is. Where decent men get gay bashed (me a few days ago) and babies die.

I don't like this game and I don't want to play.

Khash.

P.S. Thank the Goddess there are so many good, kind, funny, decent people here to remind me that the world isn't totally fucked.

19. What agony for that poor baby...
and for all his family. Nothing could be more heartbreaking than to watch your child suffer and be unable to help.

When my stepson's baby died from SIDS at 5 months, they found some small comfort in knowing he didn't suffer.

I'm sorry someone was rude to you, Khash. I hope and pray for a day when people will stop being assholes.

Thanks,

21. Let us pray your cousin's son is in a better place, and AS FOR YOU
Let us hope that you sign up for some self defense lessons. I'm a married straight man with two daughters, and I view bashing gay men as no different than the crap that girls endure from jerks that pass for men -- which is why my older daughter has studied martial arts since age 6.

Any martial art works, but I'd recommend either Okinawan Karate (invented by a small man who used to put 6'2" Marines on the floor back in the 50s), American Kenpo (a really effective hybrid of Chinese striking arts), or Kaju Ryu Jujutsu (a lot of pressure point action; you'd be amazed what happens when you have a finger on someone's carotid while you turn his earlobe like a key in an ignition). It's great exercise in addition to a great skill.

31. That is so cool
I've always said a good parent should make sure their kids can defend themselves.

I can usually, or defuse the situation so it doesn't come to that. But I got suckerpunched in the dark and went down fast. I wasn't expecting it.

Khash.

30. Khash, there's no rhyme or reason to it
It's one of the mysteries of life.

I'm so sorry about your cousin's son, and their whole family. And I'm sorry people were bashing you. For sure the world can be cruel at times.

But it can also be sweet, and pure and warm.

Maybe it's the cold and cruel that makes us appreciate the sweet and pure all the more.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jReLRxrCJqU

a man is placed upon the steps, a baby cries
and high above the church bells start to ring
and as the heaviness the body oh the heaviness settles in
somewhere you can hear a mother sing

then it's one foot then the other as you step out onto the road
how much weight? how much weight?
then it's how long? and how far?
and how many times before it's too late?

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
calling all angels
calling all angels
we're cryin' and we're hurtin'
and we're not sure why...

and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity
it's almost...it's almost as if
if you could only crack the code
then you'd finally understand what this all means

but if you could...do you think you would
trade in all the pain and suffering?
ah, but then you'd miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
callin' all angels
callin' all angels
we're tryin'
we're hopin'
we're hurtin'
we're lovin'
we're cryin'
we're callin'
'cause we're not sure how this goes

45. What a terrible story.
When I hear things like that I tend to get in a very black mood and it seems everything is futile.

I've sometimes thought that if I had a button that would blow up the world, I'd push it. Not as an act of anger, or revenge, but as an act of mercy. There is joy in this world, no doubt about it, but the joy is heavily outweighed by the sorrow.

I would have thought that if "mother nature" was truly random and indifferent there would be an even balance of joy and sorrow, but that doesn't seem to be the case. We're always looking for joy. Most only find it occasionally and even then it doesn't seem to last long before it fades. Sorrow, on the other hand, is common as gravel and robust as an oak tree. Somehow we keep muddling along, like old prospectors, convinced we're going to find a little more gold any day now. We usually do, and if we're careful, it'll be enough to last till the next time.

Sorry about all this stuff that's happened to you lately Khashka. I'm glad you shared this. It seems to help when you know others feel the same. Maybe that's the best we can do. It's good to know we're all in the same boat.
