Personally, I don't think that they could possibly have made a better choice.

Excellent, excellent, excellent.

1. two movies?
I didn't think there was enough material in the book to make two movies?

But, seems like a good choice for director.

I really liked Pan's Labyrinth, feels kind of weird saying i liked a movie that was sad and dark but damn it i did.

8. That is without question one of my all-time favorite films
Very close to absolutely perfect from the first frame to the last.

3. Well, I was hoping for Joel Schumacher or Uwe Boll or Ron Howard or Michael Bay or Emmermich
But, alright, I'll accept this guy.

7. I was hoping for Tim Burton
After such a long and praised career, he's about due to put out a film that doesn't suck.

Of course, he'd get Elfman to score it and it would rely heavily on the talents of Depp and Bonham-Carter, but who's counting?

5. What's the second movie going to be about?
Tales from The Silmarillion, maybe? Or are they cutting The Hobbit in two for some weird reason?

6. The latter
There's a note at the bottom of the page stating that the article corrects an earlier report that the 2nd film would span the time between The Hobbit and Fellowship.

For several months I had heard that the 2nd film would indeed cover that time period, but apparently that is not (or is no longer) the case.
