man, ever have one of those days? you're at work and you soooo don't want to be there.
and you have this overwhelming urge to get up and walk out the door and never come back?

Nothing bad happened, nothing good happened, but it's like eating chocolate cake. One slice is okay, the second slice is eatable, the third slice makes you sick, the 4th slice you can't even put a fork full in your mouth, by the 5th slice you get a headache just looking at it.

I'm at my job 10 years. There are no more surprises, no more challenges, no more excitement about getting up in the morning (as if there ever was). I just grind the wheat. A worker bee in the grand scheme of society. I put in my time, make the money, pay the bills. Repeat and rinse ad nausium.

I look around at my co-workers. they are basically good people. Odd, but good people. They all grind the wheat, but how do they keep this charade up? Or are they? do they really like their jobs? We are just a bunch of glorified paper pushers. It's not exciting work by any stretch or definition of the imagination.

I think of that line of the old Talking Heads song, "how did I get here?"

but that's water under the bridge. I'm here and I have to get out.

I'm not really looking for answers, this is more of a rhetorical rant.

2. every day for about 3 years...
until I finally took an early retirement to pursue something I love.

Which is to say, "I hear ya'."

3. Yes. I called in sick today even though I really wasn't
Actually I did feel a little bad this morning. I took a muscle relaxer last night and it left me feeling groggy as hell. So I called in and tried to get some work done.
