Ugh! 2 days in a row! (a public transportation rant) |
|
Ok, my rant isn't directed at public transportation itself, but rather the insane and/or racist/sexist/jackassish individuals one can encounter while riding it.
I take the subway 4 days a week. 99% of the time, it's uneventful and can actually be a rather pleasant opportunity to do some reading.
Not for the past 2 days, though.
Yesterday it was a woman standing on the subway platform screaming the n word repeatedly as she preached on how the black race was out to get her and the non-existent person behind her needed to quit stalking her.
Today it was a self-proclaimed Christian who tried to convince me that I shouldn't go to work because "women shouldn't work. It says so in the Bible. Men are your masters." Uh. Huh.
As if that weren't bad enough, it devolved from there into a rant against "that bitch Hillary...and the (n-word) Muslim." At which point, I called him offensive and asked him to leave me alone. Thankfully, he did, but he merely moved down the subway car and continued. My, that was a wonderfully relaxing commute. Or not.
I'm just glad I got up the nerve to tell him to stuff it. Normally I wouldn't since I am a single woman riding the subway...and you never know what these crazy bastards will do when confronted, but everyone around me was paying attention and were NOT happy with the guy either. I figured they had my back, should he wig out. As it was, I got a lot of smiles from everyone when I got him to leave.
Now if the crazies will stay home next week, I'd greatly appreciate it. Ugh.

1. Know what you mean. I guess the only consolation... |
|
...is that they're not letting insane people get behind the wheel of a car (mostly).

And, like I said...most of the time, it's not an issue.
I just won the crazy-fucker lottery two days in a row. :eyes:

3. Do you make eye contact? |
|
That's what usually gets me into trouble. Something on my face must say "come lay your crazy on me!" when I make eye contact.

5. Not until after he started talking |
|
I was sitting there reading a book. Unfortunately, I ended up in one of the "reserved for the handicapped" seats (there weren't any handicapped people on my train, I swear)...and that usually welcomes the crazies because they can lean right into you...which this guy did.
I tried the "ignore him and he'll get bored" technique, but the second he dropped the n-word, all bets were off. Then I looked him right in the eye, called him offensive, and asked him to quit talking to me. ;)

there were a few people that were glaring at him and looked super-pissed. That's why I felt safe confronting him!
What killed me was that he was one of maybe 5 white guys in the subway car. Not that the white guys would have supported him, but everyone else was a subject of his rant!
