Tomorrow, I search for Graphic Novels....
In particular, these ones:

Wish me luck! Hopefully the comic store I'm going to will have most of them. If not, I'll hit up Newbury Comics too. :hi:

1. Cool! I've never seen those before, though Charles Vess
is a good friend of my buddy Jeff Smith (They did a series together called "Rose"). I'll keep an eye out for them here, too. The cover artwork alone is gorgeous!

3. Hey there, fellow comics fan!

Let me make some recommendations in addition to that, in case you haven't heard of some of these:

Ex Machina (Wildstorm, Brian K. Vaughan)
Transmetropolitan (Vertigo, Warren Ellis)
Planetary (Wildstorm, Warren Ellis)

Warren Ellis' runs on Stormwatch (one TPB I can't find the name of, but it covers issues 37-43, Lightning Strikes, Change or Die, A Finer World). I'm not sure you'd like his run on the Authority (first two trades, issues 1-12), but I'll make you aware of it.

If you're fond of more mainstream stuff as well (Marvel, DC), I can give you some more titles there, but I'm not just going to dump them on you.

4. Have you ever read Berlin, City of Stones?
I love that one. Can't wait for the next in the series. there's a kid book that won an award this year that's an amazing graphic novel mix - The Invention of Hugo Cabaret.

Your local library will definitely have more than one copy. you should check it out. have you ever looked at some of the old wordless novels from the Expressionists? Otto Nuckel and Lynn Ward. Frans Masereel is my favorite - and Max Ernst's Surrealist picture books.

Have you ever read Epileptic, by David B? His work is really good. oh, and have you seen the movie, Renaissance? I LOVE that one, for the visuals.

7. I love Fables.
I've steered away from recent digressions like the 1,001 Nights thing, but just recently broke down and got the Jack collection.

Like Vertigo's more famous Sandman and Lucifer continuity, Fables is a mish-mash of mythology and folk tales, expertly woven together with characters you can care about. I'm not following the monthly comic anymore--has it stalled out?--but I always grab the trade paperbacks.

Anyone remotely interested in fairy tales ought to sit down in a big-box bookstore and read a trade or two. If you hang in there long enough to find out who the Adversary is, you'll laugh.
