And I have to say, it has a certain charm to it.

And it's nice finally to hear the words.

2. bizarre
Smells Like Teen Spirit, Everybody Hurts from REM, Ordinary World from Duran Duran, Black Hole Sun...?

WTF?

I'm 41 and I remember Paul Anka as somebody from my parent's generation... ?

3. His version of Van Halen's "Jump" is very Sinatra.
There is something about some of Van Halen's tunes that have a real old-school style of Sinatra-like jazz to them. I think Roth was a big fan of that kind of music - I think of that album he did of older material (like "Just a Gigolo"), and how much a lot of Van Halen's (at least their originals, not covers) could be done very much in that style.

5. i think Roth is for sure, Ice Cream is one of my favorite VH songs. It has a kind
of big band/blues sound. I saw VH live twice before it became Van Hagar and both shows were fantastic.

7. Not that far off from Richard Cheese's version, is it?
Hearing this guy sing Cobain's rather silly (probably on purpose) "teen angst" lyrics is pretty funny, though.

8. Didn't Pat Boone do a bunch of heavy metal too?
Ozzy maybe? My memory is for shit. It was really awful.

10. He did. With a leather vest, temporary tattoos, and everything.
But hearing him croon "Panama" made it kinda worth it.

If you're gonna change the style, at least put some emotion into it, like http://youtube.com/watch?v=wcHNZVrxEts">this one.

16. Welllll.... it might, depending on your point of view
;)

Look at this site (April Winchell) and scroll about a fifth of the way down for the Teen Spirit section. There's almost 20 versions there. I'm listening to the Ragnar Bjarnason version at the moment :P

20. Cool!
:)

I didn't find a section for that cut, but did find this link and mp3: Cedar Point Jim - The Wind Beneath My Wings

That's part of the 365 Days Project from 1-14-2003.
And further weirdness can be found at Weirdomusic.com specifically, the links section.

17. It's a pretty brilliant album. Spectacular reimaginings and arrangements.
My band frequently uses tracks from this album at weddings during the break after our dinner set.
