a friend sent me two very rw, very stupid e-mails that he received. one involved barak obama being the most liberal senator right now and one involving the war in iraq and teh bible. anyway, i sent EVERYONE on his e-mail list a terse response to these e-mails. i am sure most people just look at these and then delete them but still....

my best friend's mom forwards some random crap like that sometimes. She doesn't pay enough attention to the news to have her own real opinions, she just forwards whatever was forwarded to her.

4. You did right, IMO.

I've done the same. My replies weren't "terse" though, ha ha. One of them was short but well researched and cited, calling out all of their outright lies and other bullshit. The other was simply full of counter examples for comparison and used actual logic to bluntly address their ignorance and stupidity. And yes, I hit "send all."

In the first case another recipient sent something of his own in support of what I wrote, again, sent to all. And the original sender, an long lost acquaintance of mine, never spoke or wrote to me again. Oooh, such a loss, heh. In the latter case I received a nonsensical, chock-fulla spelling and grammatical errors reply from someone who questioned my patriotism. Hee. But the original sender, a sorta-friend of mine, made nothing of it and never mentioned it. And also stopped sending me RW political bullshit. Score! We are friends to this day.

To the people who had sent me these forwarded e-mails, I ended up asking all of them...

"Please don't send me these missives. I'd be very grateful to hear your own opinions and analysis of a given situation as I know you're a pretty smart guy/gal. You do yourself a disservice relying on these-- most of which turn out to be factually incorrect.

So please do me a favor-- don't send them to me anymore unless you yourself are the author, as they illustrate so much less of your potential than you probably think...."

I don't receive them anymore. :) Yay for me!
