Today's resale shop haul. I made out mighty well again!

One of my favorite things to do on my day off is to hit the local resale shops. I love to see what I can find. I look for things I've actually been thinking of buying anyway, and I'm amazed at how much I can find without buying new things. And three of the four resale shops in town benefit charities--the hospital auxiliary, the Salvation Army, the homeless shelter.

Today's finds: An Oreck vacuum for $3.00. And yes, it works. I've already tried it. I decided to buy it whether it worked or not, because getting it repaired would probably still have been less than buying a new one. And I've been considering getting one anyway.

A Black and Decker Jar Lid Opener. I've been really wanting one of these. I've had it on my Amazon wish list for like a year. This one cost me $2.00. I down-loaded the Owner's Manual, and opened a jar of organic applesauce that I've been fighting with for a week.

A microwave oven. $3.00. This isn't for me. A parishioner is director of the agency in town that runs the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, does a lot of youth counseling, is the state-authorized training agency for foster care in this county, does excellent work with at risk kids and families. He mentioned that they need a microwave for their office, but didn't want to spend the money. So, I found this one at the Salvation Army. The woman who runs the shop said it worked, that they test all appliances before putting them on the sales floor (good to know!). So, I bought it and took it right to the agency office for my friend's staff.

So, all in all, a pretty good day. A nice way to feed my consumerism and shopping addiction, without having to call Suze Orman for help in dealing with my credit card debt!
