Any one have an opinion on this?
Just finished a website for my artist husband. Any ideas on improving the website such as navigation, extra pages, etc. I used Website Tonight software which is limiting for images... so can't add descriptive captions where I would like... but other than, whadyathink?

http://jenkinsarts.com

Thanks ahead of time for your opinions, suggestions!

1. I'm jealous
Simply beautiful art! Could you put text within the image? Perhaps along the bottom of the pix? I've done that before in photoshop.

2. There are so many of them.

There are images I haven't put up yet in the slideshow area. And some in the slideshow window don't have captions yet. The software and I didn't work well together. Time is an issue with doing that as well as space on our hard drive.

But thanks for your kind words. I've been promising to get this done for him for quite a while. Every time we've had cash set aside for someone else to do it, some other vital thing comes along that needs to be paid first.

3. I like the simplicity very much
I think it might look a bit better with four to six points of white space between the color boxes.

But then, I'm a newspaper guy, so I'm used to gutters between columns. :)

4. I will try that... thanks.
I had trouble adding space early on - there is an unknown pixel space on the right hand column area. I assume its probably 400 pixels. The program I created it in is very veeeerrrrryyyy slow in making changes. I had tried making it more earlier on but gave up. I will revisit that.

8. Which one?
The one with the blueish background? The homeowner who commissioned it recently sold that house and the new owners called last month to see if we wanted to buy it back. Crazy, yes? The house is built around a silo and is a very interesting place. So they didn't buy it to be conventional people. Oh, well.

10. The homeowners name is
part of the tree design in the door. They were pretty happy with the outcome and he's sold them a few other pieces.

17. I loved that movie!
This one doesn't sway like that tho. :P

But I know what you mean, I have always wanted to have a spiral staircase ever since. Wouldn't mind that library now too. Or that garden area...come to think of it. The hand-holding ghost I could do without.

Just being a bit of a noodge, but you might consider continuity of font faces. I like the green contrast on the Fine, Public and Functional Arts pages and would suggest carrying it through to the "Fine + Functional Art" headers on the front and subsequent pages (including "Contact Us" on the Contact page). Also, I like the sans serif on the intro and would recommend continuing that, as well as the larger size, throughout the body text and links on the other pages. HTH

14. I did try that and earlier today tried to figure
out what fonts fit. There are only a few to choose from. Ended up using the old standbys - arial and times as the others offered were too visually distracting and hard to read in the smaller sizes. I could make the color thing work though... thanks for the suggestion!

22. One the whole, I liked it
I'm viewing in Safari and I had to bump up the font size to read the descriptions. The slide show seems a little awkward.

For hosting try Fatcow.com - $88/year.

I'm working on my own site right now, but I'm using iWeb and publishing on dotMac although I could ftp it elsewhere without all the features.

23. Wow. font problems in Safari is not good.
I just signed on to go daddy for a year but will remember fatcows when this runs out.

And I agree the slideshow is not ideal. But given the limitations of the software (and my budget), it will have to do for now.
