I just adopted a wild Mustang.
Sunday I adopted a wild Mustang from the Bureau of Land Management.
He's two years old. He's really wild but the first day he ate out of my hand and let me pet him. He'll be joining my herd of cattle and my 22 year old Morgan. He'll have hundreds of acres to enjoy and will have a good life.

These are beautiful horses. I paid only $125 for mine. The Feds took good care of him. They gelded him, gave him all his shots, blood tests and have been worming him. After one year he becomes mine, until then he still belongs to the government. My first 'GI' horse!

I have named him Wildairo. He's adjusting so well. If he's scared of something he stands his ground and it's so sweet. When he grows up he'll be a handsome boy.

I bid on him.

The 'G' men sort and load him for me. They even hauled him home for me!

Wild No More. He gets used to his halter and lead rope. He meets my Morgan.

5. Will do
His herd was rounded up last summer because of the drought they ran out of water. He's from Beatty's Butte in South Central Oregon. I can't believe some people would slaughter these horses. Out of the 22 horses at this auction only two got adopted.

6. He's beautiful
I love bays. And you have a Morgan! I'm from Vermont - I grew up riding Morgans. I had one guy who was 23 when I started hunting him. They're such hardy horses and he absolutely loved hunting (drag hunt - I have no interest in killing foxes). He was 29 when he died, not so much from old age but because he foundered badly. :(

My Josh (overjumping as usual) -

And my Amigo, who I had as a kid -

10. You ride so well
I have owned Morgans since 1980. My Morgan is called Apple Pi Foxsun Bay. He was born in Wyoming. His sire was Sunup Phaon.
I fox hunted in England as a girl, to just say I did, but me and my friends were out to help the fox. We let him run right between us and didn't say anything. I'm against Fox hunting.
Here's a picture of my Morgan when he was about 3 or 4.

7. You are in for a treat
We have 2 arabian mares and a 17 day old arabian colt and not a one of them can compare to my 17 month old BLM mustang. He is the most fun and the smartest horse I have ever seen. He is a littlw wild and wooly right now till his winter coat comes off. Its kind of funny I call Buck My Handsome Boy.

14. He's lovely
Do you know where he came from? How far have you got with him? I've been going some reading about how to work with Mustangs. I'm 54 and I never thought I'd be taking on a 'wild' Mustang at my age. My husband came home yesterday and asked me, "Have you broke that wild Mustangs spirit yet?" Lol.

16. He came from herd in Wyoming
I am 56 years old, been around horses in my younger days but my husband retired last year ,so with time on my hand I decided I needed a pasture pet,but it turns out I think I have a brilliant horse. He leads, follows, comes when I call him, gives kisses. My neighbor trains horses and he thinks Buck is a terrific horse,we had a saddle blanket on him yesterday and he thought it was too cool. LOL Gentle as a kitten and what amazes me is I have never had to clean out his stall. He steps outside to do his business, always in the same spot. When he runs through the pasture he is gorgeous. Of course I can brag about him all day.

8. He's so brave
He turns and faces anything new and scary. Once he finds out it's not going to hurt him he's fine. I've owned horses since 1970 and so to me he seems very intelligent and not at all silly. He notices every new noise. He heard the train in the distance and stood and listened to it. At the auction site a ag plane flew over and all the mustangs looked up at it, it looked so cute. He walks up to us but is really not sure about us yet. He's been chased and herded since last summer so I'm really amazed he's as calm as he is.
I hope to start riding him after he turns 3.

9. Congratulations English Lady! Wildairo is such a handsome bay boy!

I'm sure that he will adjust to his new home and friends just fine! My boss has a mustang (He's just a big pasture pet though. The daughter never started him under saddle.)

Good luck and best wishes for many happy years together!

BTW, my mare, Cotton, will be 5 years old on Sunday May 4, 2008. It seems like just yesterday that she was a wet and wobbly newborn foal! Now she's an (almost) grownup Oldenburg mare!

Aren't horses just the best? I love them so! :) :hi:

12. They grow up so fast
It'll be 20 years since we brought my Foxsun home from Wyoming. We live in Eastern Washington State. He was just 2 yrs old. I still think of him as a colt even though he's got a few grey hairs on his face. He still looks good though because he's had a very easy life. He's a 'trusty' on our ranch, gates can be left open and he just wonders around the place. Once I found him asleep under an apple tree in my garden. When the cows get out he will go on his own and bring some of them home, just his favorites though.
I think if Wildairo gets out it'll be another story till he turns into a big pet like Foxsun.
