Pupdate

Well, we dropped little Simon off at the hospital this afternoon... they need to do some blood work and keep him overnight before the surgery tomorrow. Then they need to keep him for observation for 24 hrs afterwards, so the soonest he can come home is Thursday afternoon. :(

I am sitting here feeling very blue. I know how much he hates his crate, and now he's alone and scared in a little cage. The docs have all been wonderful, and i know they'll treat him well, but still...

Anyway, we should hear early tomorrow afternoon how the procedure went. I will keep you updated. Thanks SO much for all the vibes and hugs... you all are the best. :grouphug:

My sis had a dog with a serious heart murmur that the vets said was a hole in his heart and was inoperable and gave him 7 or 8 years..well somehow the hole closed and the heart murmur disappeared he is now a fairly healthy 12 year old doggie...So maybe your pup will do well too..

6. Thanks GoG

Elmo has actually seemed really bummed this afternoon... he's been pacing a lot and sniffing all over... maybe he is looking for Simon? :(

Iza brought Elmo out for some errands this afternoon because he said Elmo seemed down. Then i just took him down to the dog park, so now he's snoozing. I do think he misses his new little brother though!

Aw...

That picture never fails to get me...

I'm sure he will do well...

But of course you miss him, right now...

Maybe the vet gave him something to help him be calm?

I look forward to hearing how well he did!

15. Vibes for Simon!
I know it's a horrible feeling to leave a pet at the vet's. I was a mess when I took Kyra in to be spayed and that's not even a major surgery!

But think of it this way: If Simon hadn't found you when he did, his story would be much, much different. You're doing the very best thing for him.

He's probably not very happy right now, but this surgery is giving him the chance at a happy and long life. So spend this time thinking of ways you can spoil him when he gets home! ;)

16. Thanks so much for your post, huskerlaw

That's an excellent bit of (needed) perspective :)

I'm glad we have the opportunity to help him (hopefully)... it is costing an arm and a leg, but i believe once you take in an animal you are responsible for their well-being. And his condition was something that could have worsened very abruptly, so i know this is the right decision.

I've already been thinking about the spoiling! :D He is totally in love with Elmo's bed (see the photo above, haha), so once he gets home i think he should get one of his very own. :)

18. Oh, that's good to know!

Our 4th-year student already said that the whole cardiology ward is in love with him... she said during his appt yesterday they were letting him run around in the hallway and he had at least 8-10 treats because everyone wanted to give him one!

I know they'll treat him well, and his prognosis is good if all goes well, i'm just a worrywart about my "babies" :)

Hope you're doing well lg! :loveya:

I sure hope you're right... i am *thoroughly* attached to him at this point...

I had last talked to my dad when we were first "fostering" Simon. I was filling him in yesterday, and he said "oh, no -- who's going to adopt a puppy with that sort of condition?" I just said "ummm....." and he started laughing. "You're keeping him, aren't you???"

47. for simon
Dear God, you have given us care over all living things; protect and bless the animals who give us companionship and delight, make us their true friends and worthy companions. Amen.

Dear God, protect and bless all beings that breathe, keep all evil from them, and let them sleep in peace. Amen.
--Albert Schweitzer, "Memoirs of Childhood and Youth"

Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.
--Franciscan prayer

Simon, may you be blessed in the name of the Holy One who created you, and may you and SallyMnder enjoy life together and care for one another in peace.

Healing and transforming God, your love knows no boundaries, and in your sight every life is precious; look with compassion on Simon, and make us your agents of healing in a broken world. Amen.

God of the universe, be present with this your creature. Bless Simon and SallyMander who cares for him, now and always. Amen.

May God, who heals the sick, defends the vulnerable, cares for the poor, and liberates all creation from suffering and injustice, bring us all to that peaceable kingdom when all creatures shall live in harmony and all suffering shall be transformed into joy. Amen.
