I ruined my diet after succumbing to half of a homemade cupcake |
|
BAD undertheocean, BAD !
tomorrow morning I'm sure I'll discover that I regained 5 pounds of the 14 I lost last month.

1. My dear UndertheOcean! |

One half of a cupcake will not add 5 pounds back onto you!
You need to have a little something for yourself now and then...
I've lost over 50 pounds over about 10 years, and I still eat desserts and snacks!
You'll be OK...

You indulged yourself, perhaps, something that is important to do once in a while so you don't get totally angry about food :) Trust me on that one, as a diabetic with a looooong history of diet control.
If you really feel the need, do some crunches or some jumping jacks or something extra today, but seriously, don't beat yourself up.
Can I be nosy and ask what kind of diet you're following?

people eat sweets from time to time. Learning to incorporate them in reasonable portions and in moderation is an important lesson in eating healthfully.

It's not the cupcake that will get you, it's the resultant blood-sugar swing that will get you. Every time I go near sugar, I get trapped into a vicious cycle in which my blood sugar drops after the sugar rush, leading me to crave still more sweets. Don't do it. Stay away.

9. If dieting is anything like stopping smoking... |
|
One mistake isn't the issue. It is thinking that one isn't so bad. Then it is a series of mistakes like that that bring you right back where you started.
*cough* *gag* *spends more money on stupid cigarettes* *cough*

12. 14 lbs in a month? Are you under a doctor's supervision? |
|
You shouldn't be losing nearly that fast without a damned good medical reason and professional monitoring. Going under 2,000 calories a day should only be done under medical advice.

13. agreed. at some point the body thinks you are in a famine and starts resetting |
|
your metabolism and you gain
I lost 58 pounds on Weight Watchers. It has been great ..the best thing is that if you have half a damn cupcake you just count the points and go on to the next day. I am pretty sure I was losing easily on more than 1500 calories per day
WW figures out a total point count for the day based on age, height, current weight, sex and activity level, and whether you want to lose weight or maintain current weight. Then they teach you how to calculate the point values of the normal foods we eat. You would be amazed how many foods have 0 points in the WW values. We also get 35 xtra weekly points. If you are eating your daily points you will lose. So what if you have one day where you eat 5 points too many..that's what the weekly points are for.
So I took 2 years to lose the weight but I really think I can keep it off now. I feel better too.

14. That sounds like a more reasonable approach |
|
Slower weight loss based on relearning healthy eating habits makes more sense than staying just above starvation, because it's sustainable over the long term.
