The paperwork is very short; you can do it there.
The waiting is the hardest part. The closer you live to the processing center the faster.
I live in Little Rock Ark and the center is in New Orleans. It took less than two weeks. It can take as much as six weeks.

8. Word of advice: renew the passport before it expires. Costs $50 more

to get a new passport vs. renewing it. Should be for a term of 10 years.
