Well, my heart rate has spiked again today... |
|
Edited on Wed May-07-08 01:26 PM by jasonc
lately, it has been going up due to activity, and then staying up for long periods.
I cant say what activity made it go up for fear of getting this thread locked...;)
but I can say it was hours ago and it still has not dropped. I took my meds and am relaxing and if it doesn't go down in a bit, I am going to the doctor.
My Fiance is scared and worried and I am not particularly happy about this either.
At last conversation with the doc, they had considered implanting a pacemaker to stabilize my heart rate. Since nothing else seems to be working, not even meds anymore.

1. tachycardia is no joke. If it doesn't go down, go to the ER. |
|
Seriously, if you wait too long, you can suffer a heart attack or heart failure.

That's not good.
And I don't mean to be a jerk, but maybe you should avoid the behaviour that's raising your heart rate until you can figure out how to keep it steady.

5. Have you tried the valSalva Maneuver? |
|
Has your doctor mentioned that to you? If you have SPT, it WILL work.

Seriously. I have a lot of experience self-regulating tachycardia. Taking half a dozen slow deep breaths can help. Also, as Midlo mentioned, the Valsalva's Maneuver is recommended. That means you take a deep breath, hold it, and bear down as long as you can hold the breath. Last resort at home: submerge face in a bowl of ice water and hold it as long as you can.
But getting your doctor's opinion comes first.
Things that exacerbate tachycardia:
caffeine lack of sleep, fatigue potassium deficiency dehydration...

9. I am back and appear to be ok. |
|
They hooked me up to a heart monitor, took an EKG, a Chest Xray, and took blood.
once again, nothing appears to be wrong with me.
I have a completely unexplainable tachycardia...Frustrating as hell.
My hear rate is back down, as is my BP and I appear to be normal.
Even my EKG showed a perfectly normal rhythm.
My fiance was there the whole time holding my hand. The most frustrating part of all this for me is that it upsets her so much. I want it to not happen, or to be figured out and taken care of so it doesn't happen anymore just to alleviate her fears.
Thanks for the kind words, all of you, even the people that don't like me so much.

maybe you should go for bio feedback or something
I get weird HB's once in a while and I close my eyes and just breath in rhythm and see my heart beat that way to..
kind of a suggestion to it, reminding it to even out I do this when I have panic attacks to..
It works for me I AM NOT saying it will work for you....
just an idea

I am sure it is frustrating to get to the ER only to find that everything is "normal" when you were feeling so off. I hope they continue to monitor you and determine what it is that is causing it.

It is very frustrating. My heart rate was high when I got there, but it came down on its own, and was perfectly normal when I left. Everything else was normal...

if he thinks a beta blocker would help (e.g. Atenolol).
I don't know your particulars, and I don't even play a doctor on TV. But I had high heart rate (with high BP), and a beta blocker took care of both. And man, this is one of the cheapest drugs in the world (less than 10 bucks per month), it's been on the market forever (read: safe). So it's worth asking about!

its an ACE inhibitor
beta blockers might slow heart rate more
don't want to get into giving medical advice without a license to practice medicine though

29. what is dig on board? |

I was diagnosed with a sinus tachycardia, however today the EKG was perfectly normal, no abnormalities at all.
I hope I do not need to go the route of a pacemaker. But I will if I have to.
Thanks!

sounds like there are some options that hopefully lie between you and a pacemaker, but I had a good friend who's resting pulse was 38 and they put a pacemaker in him and he has felt good ever since whereas he felt tired all the time before, of course he wasn't an olympic athlete either with that resting pulse rate.
